Exclamation How to copy over existing files

I need to be able to copy or choose to copy or not copy over existing files. Now, when I upload an existing file, I get a copy of this file with a filename-1, filename-2,-3,-4 etc. I have so many files I need to be able to overwrite existing files so I don't have 10 of the same file. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Copying over a file would be considered a bug. The program is coded to not allow a filename of the same name to be overwrote. This is a protection measure because there is no way to know the files are identical

Thanks for the reply, so you saying Photopost cannot let me know there are files of the same name and give me the option to write or not write over them? There must be a way to set up Photopost to let me know of duplicate files.

Ok, so what are the my options for how PhotoPost deals with the same filename? If there are no options, maybe some recoding is needed. It is suprising to me the this software can't give you a basic alert that asks if you want to replace files with the same name.

This software was designed NOT to allow filenames being uploaded with the same name.

You would have to recode the application to work as you wish.

Ok, if that's the case I need to look into using other software. Having the choice to overwrite a file or not seems to be a simple and needed option. When uploading MANY images, there will be times when a particular image is already there. Having control, when uploading, to be able to not upload files with the same name seems to be a simple task, one that PhotoPost should offer. I'll look elsewhere for this function. I was expecting more from this forum.

hat is of course your option to do so. I do not think your understanding fully why this is a function of the software or why coding something like you want would be considered a BUG in any software product of this nature. Personally every gallery I know of performs exactly as ours in this nature.

Let's look at how a gallery works. You have many users uploading Photos and I upload a file named rose.jpg. Another user uploads a file named rose.jpg. it is properly renamed to rose1.jpg. There is no server software that is going to tell that the photos are identical. They could be completely different Photos. You are just dealing with the actual filename and as a result the filename is changed accordingly to not cause someone else's photo to be overwritten and the Photo is processed.

There is not really anymore I can state about this function. If you should wish to discuss code modification you may do so in THE MOD CORNER.

Yes, that's fine and the way it should be for those particular users. In my case, I am the only user and have set up PhotoPost as a tool for our company to use these photos. I control all company product photos and make sure we have all of them online and available for them to access. We have thousands of images. At times I receive images from China, and this folder of images may have some images I have already received. Every image has a specific name and no two images ever have the same name. Now, being able to know, when I'm uploading files to PhotoPost, which images are already there, would eliminate having multiple files of the same image and same image name from being in our galleries. Having the 1, 2, 3 etc is just confusing for people. When an image is needed, a specific filename is used and anything with a extra number - 1 - 2 etc makes it appear these are different images which they are not. I totally understand why Photopost is setup this way, I just didn't make it clear how I need to use Photopost. Maybe our needs are just too much for PHotopost to handle.

Like I say you would need to modify the code. For ideas on how to do that you need to post in THE MOD CORNER.

Your going to encounter this issue in every piece on online gallery software because not rewriting the files to new names is quite a big bug in any gallery application.
