Assigning Additional Category Without Upload Authority

Is there a way to allow users to assign images to a particular category while blocking them from uploading to the category?

No the category dropdown box used for uploading or moving photos to is all determined by upload permissions.

Is there a way to define a user "catoptions" selection list that contains only those categories under a specific Top Level Category?

If this was possible the bulkupload template could be changed to display this selection list (rather than "catoptions2") under the appropriate circumstances.

Surely yes if you are so inclined to modify your code to suit your needs you are free to do something like this probally means making an entirely new function

Chuck ...

Thanks for replying to all my questions so quickly.

What we decided to do is grant 'Assign Alternate Category' authority to Admin only. The only rub is after copying a photo to an alternate category, you have to assume ownership of the "copy" so the original owner can't edit it. The owner doesn't have load authority to the assigned category so it surprised me that they could edit the "copy" in that category.

Is there any way around this?

Then they couldn't edit their original photo

Leaving ownership asis might not cause any problems. If it does then I'll start taking ownership of copies.
