Prevent pictures from being downloaded

Chuck

Ok, Got 5.6.2 up and running with my VB 3.6.4 Now the start of many questons. First off, Is there a way to Lock\Prevent prictures from being download, Especially the Full Size originals.

I've got the switch set that prevents the right click option and that works fine and I got the Originals stored in another directory besides Data but that dont seem to do anything.

I also tried to set the .htaccess file in the new originals directory to only allow the same user as the database user id. All's that did was show a protected login prompt when trying to open photopost so thats no good either. I was hoping it would allow users to See the pictures but not Download them. Pehaps I'm doing something wrong since I dont know the .htaccess that well.

And Even with all this if I just held my mouse over the picture in Internet Explorer I got the box with the 4 options to download, print, etc. Is there any way to prevent this, to Lock the Originals down. Thanks...

If the directory is below the webroot they should not be able to get the picture and also you can use the watermark script to show the pics so users dont see the picture path

Now users who are smart know they can search their browser cache and the pictures are always there so no way to stop that.

Not sure I understand what your saying. Users will normally have access to anything below the Root IE: http://mysite.com/. That is unless restricted by a .htaccess file in the protected directory. But thats no good either because then they have to Log In a 2nd time just to even See the pictures and then they can still download Them.

You've got me thinking now about Maybe Outside the web root but I'm not sure thats even doable. I'll play with it.

Well I just set the on-the-fly image protection to yes But Without the watermark set to yes Or a path to watermark overlay image. I really didnt see any difference and still got the download/print/etc, box.

Ya I know, Ultimetly though some sort of Switch or setting would stop 95% of the people out there from just downloading them. I could see a real need for such a switch in photopost. Say something that only allows the uploader or admin to actually Download/Print the Original And maybe even the medium size picture too.

In my case I'm trying to prevent someone from downloading my entire background/screensaver art collection I will be putting online or at least make it as hard as possible for them to do. I want them to admire it not download it.

Another case I see would be a parent not having to be concerned that if he/she uploads photos of thier kids to a photopost site some sicko wont come along download a picture of little Suzie, Photoshop it, and upload it to his favorite kidde porn site.

Excluding the cache, such a switch would at least help prevent both instances. Just being able to Download a icon or Small picture doesnt do a lot of good. Just some food for thought. Let me know if you have any more ideas. Thanks...

Nothing in our software is going to encounter some browser image toolbar if your referring to the IE toolbar for images. You need to turn that off by setting this in the header of your pages

<meta http-equiv="imagetoolbar" content="no">

Dam, You beat me to it. I started looking at it from the browser side and ya I found the same thing too. Along with the disabled right click it Works Great. Just what I wanted. Now I wonder if Mozella has the same sort of toolbar and how to Disable it. In my case I put the line in my VB header file.

Thats a Major headache solved. It's like hacking or burglery, If they really want it/in they can But At Least there not getting the freaking Button coming up asking them. Thanks dude...
