How Many MySQL Connections

I am finding that some users are racking up a large number of MySQL connections (40 - 90) and putting a large load on the system - some are just connected to an image or some to the slide show - then dissappear through time - in theory how many connections should an individual make at any one time and can this be regulated to minimise server load / MySQL load

You can try fine tuning your mysql settings. You may need to contact your host. Ask them that the mysql or process drop time is. Looks to me if they are not disappearing then or dropping like they should when someone leaves viewing a photo etc

Chuck - thats what i think also but what should a well optimised site max out at 10, 20, 30 connections for a user ? what is a reasonable target so that the site provides a good service but doesn't get overloaded ?
