That's about the best we can come up with for now.

Thanks Chuck, for bearing with me!

Now we're ready to upgrade the other Galleries!

Cheers,
Mark

Yep all this is correct.
It's the direction that I'm making a fuss about.

I just think that the newer photos should go to the left and the older photos to the right, just as thumbs are displayed at showgallery.

It's a logical replication. If your eyes are scanning left<newer to right>older thumbnails at showgallery, the brain will follow suit at the filmstrip and also in use of Next/Previous links.

Chuck, have you made any changes to your gallery since we last discussed this?
example ... Fish pics category

http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/505
Newest - Yellow fish 1281 > red fish 1228 > red fish 1152

Now the images in the filmstrip follow in the same > direction > as is shown in showgallery, and the right hand (Next Image) shows the next image to the right, just as thumbs are displayed in showgallery, left to right.

This is the exact way we had it before, and as such we shouldn't have needed to make any changes in this version.

I would agree, in theory at least, that only the words (previous/next) could be swapped around if one wanted ...
Next Image = newest Image and Previous Image = older Image

However the meaning of PrevNext would of course be irrelevant if one were to change the photo sort type at showgallery viewing.

Anyway we've eliminated the use of the Next/Previous words as we have these links to < Photos - Photos > so this issue doesn't matter to us.

What was of greater concern for us was what appeared to be a change in the direction of viewing the filmstrip and Prev'Next links that were going in the opposite direction to our default descending photo sort at showgallery.

According to your gallery link shown, we shouldn't have had any problems.

Chuck, did you get a chance to look at my above post?
As this gallery is live we will need to reimplement the mods we have taken out to show you how our default looks later tonight.

Ah you must have upgraded in the last day.
It's changed to 5.5 way. Too bad I didn't take a screenshot of before.

Here's some screenshots to show different direction of filmstrip ...
http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/505

5.5 ReefTalk /showgallery
ReefTalkShowgallery.jpg
Thumbnails left to right

5.5 ReefTalk /showphoto
ReefTalkShowphoto.jpg
Filmstrip - same thumbnails right to left

Well I'm done giving you a hard time about this

We've figured out the mods for the filmstrip and next/prev links to keep our viewers from getting their knickers in a twist, and I'll find a way to appease the missus for the extra template changes she'll have to do with each upgrade.

I'm giving this greater thought and while I saw the logic of the filmstrip changing direction; I'm rethinking that change now.

In the title bar we have

<< PREV and NEXT >>

Notice the direction of the arrows. Well, in the filmstrip is might make sense that it be reversed; but it doesn't follow the direction indicators in the title bar.

I'll change this back to the way it was in the previous versions.

Michael you still need to change your next and prev wording if you do that as no matter how you look at it its backwards. Previous photo should not go to a higher photo. That is next. Next photo should not go to an older lower number photo. Just my thoughts.

I agree with Chuck that technically, the wording for the Previous/Next links should be switched around if the default photo sort viewing is ...
Next = newer/higher numbered pics
Previous = older/ lower numbered pics

As a side thought, if the category photo sort was changed by the viewer to another sort option, then this wording issue would probably not change to reflect the sort change.

Finally, it was our personal decision just to remove the Previous/Next wording, substituting it in language file for ...
< Images . Slideshow . Images > or < Photos . Slideshow . Photos >

This also gave us a little more space at the Navbar if the category Title Navbits were long-winded ...
Anyway our solution may not suit everyone, but have mentioned it here to anyone reading this.

It is different in the latest download - what I would love to know is which files are the most important files for me to replace - since I've made a few mods in some of the files.

I removed the array_reverse line from showphoto.php and swapped the id numbers for the prev/next in the lines above.

Prompted by this I've uploaded a build downloaded today and now the smilies don't appear in the "recent comments" box (just the code appears), although they do appear in the comments beneath the pics. They did appear with the previous build 9th October
