Imagemagick vs GD2

Posted this before in the wrong section. thought maybe that's why i didnt' recieve an answer.

What is the difference between imagemagick and GD2? Which one is the better of the two? Why would u pick one over the other?

I prefer Imagemagick as if you have all the supporting libraries install like tiff it supports more formats but the one main difference is that it is not part of PHP like GD. GD being part of PHP uses the memory of php and as a result there are more issues with PHP stopping blocking the upload.
