Exclamation Spam attacks - need help!

Our photoboard has been under increasing spam attacks with HUGE spam messages being sent to it. I moderate all posts but wish you had a "remove all" not just a "approve all" link since there are few comments that I approve and ALL the 100-200 others are generally spam each day.

Today I had a far worse problem. I tried to log in to moderate comments and received this message:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 2927174 bytes) in /hermes/web03/b460/pow.catnip/htdocs/photopost/adm-misc.php on line 2279

How do I protect our photoboard from being overwhelmed like this? Is there some way I can simply make it impossible for nonregistered participants to post anything at all and still allow registered members to post?

HELP! I may be posting this to the wrong section.. couldn't find one that fits this subject well. If so, my apologies.

This would depend on your setup and it would seem you have guests allowed to upload and or post

Simply in usergroup options in admin set them to do nothing

Please....Is there some way to quickly remove 500+ comments from the moderator interface? They are HUGE comments that cause the frame to extend to the left of the page so I have to scroll, and removing them one by one will take FOREVER.

I wish I had a quick fix for you - it's something we could look to add in the future; but other than running an SQL statement manually in phpmyadmin, I'm not sure how else to tell you to proceed.

I have removed 500 and there 500 more.. looking at the comment counts on the site there are THOUSANDS. Please, how do I get rid of them without losing the photos, too by overwriting the whole database?

The only thing we can do to assist would tell you to delete all comments via phpmyadmin you should be able to hit the empty link for comments

Whether you do that is up to you but as Michael and I posted not much else we can suggest.

Ok, I cleared them all once I realized one category had 10,000 comments! (Gosh, a week of vacation and they trashed the board in my absence!)

How do I reset the comment numbers.. though there are no comments the numbers still show huge comment numbers in the columns.

You can scan database in admin and hit update counts

That reset the numbers under each picture but the numbers shown in the comments column of the main page still are high. What am I doing wrong?

Did you wait for your cache to reset?

Try turning off the cache in global options view the index then turn it back on.

Hmm - posted in 2002 - When will a feature like this be added? Removal of Comments and/or admin option to bulk 'Action' comments??

Well this is posted in 2006 not 2002 and this is a perfect example of when I tell people if they have suggestions post them in the suggestions forum.

You can not post in a support forum itself and expect the developer to find anything there thats why we have the suggestions forum where he can find ideas customers wish.

I will browse the suggestion, but I am sure it has been added. Michael has a lot on his place though, so sql editing is pretty simple also..

I am sure you will not find it. Probally 90% of things people throw out daily they never post in suggestions forum. Thats why I always post to them when I see posts nowadays
