moderating comments

I have things setup to moderate comments. It works, however I noticed on the main index comments are still showing up under the "recent comments" PAL, even though they haven't been approved yet. If I go to the actual photo and thread they aren't listed, which is what should happen. Is there some fix? using v 5.3.1
