PP 5.31: User commnets do not appear

Hi

PP 5.31: User comments do not appear

I just upgraded from 5.3 to 5.31. I overwrote all php, all forum and all template files. All seems o.k. except when a user posts a comment the comment does NOT appear below the image. Only an empty field with no text.

On the index page, I have turned on last 5 commenst. There the comment is appearing. If I click on that image, no comment at all. Even older comments.

How to fix this?

alma townsend June 13th, 2006 04:15 PM

I just did a new install of PP 5.31 and am having the same problem
I'm using PP with phpBB 2.0.20

The comments do appear on the main index but there is a delay till they appear there. But still no comment visible when you follow link and look below image on Photo Show.
Thanks for any help

I have no vb integration. I use PP intergrated with classifieds and reviewpost, if that helps.

I sent Chuck the link to my live board. Another user has the same problem:

http://www.photopost.com/forum/showt...22#post1162122

So this seems to happen with both, with and without forum software integration.

Did you make sure to upload all php scripts except the ones noted and the templates?

snoopy5 June 14th, 2006 12:51 AM

Yes, I did it twice. No improvement.

Drew-SDM June 14th, 2006 07:25 AM

Cant wait to figure out the cure...the natives are getting restless!!!

See this ticket:
http://www.photopost.com/forum/vbugs...ew&vbug_id=199

find:
Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.
replace with:
Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.
This needs to be done for all the forums/*.php files it appears. At least, photopost.php, phpbb2.php and ib2.php.

Chuck S June 14th, 2006 08:35 AM

Indeed correct however the correct fix is instead

Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.
becomes

Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.

Can anybody of the users that posted the problem confirm, that with this change the problem disappeared?

I do not want to stress again the patience of my gallery users, in case this hack did not help all of you fixing the problem.

snoopy5 June 14th, 2006 09:35 AM

Just as a side note:

I looked in the bug tracker. This problem was reported on June 11th, 2006 09:50 AM. It was rated as "minor". This is a bad joke!

I just do not understand, why nobody of the Photopost team made the effort to check, whether the same bug appears also in other forum files.

Instead you leave us without a notice and we download the 5.31 release yesterday (2 days later) and leave us with upset users of our galleries. I spent hours to check, what I might have done wrong while my board was not accessable for my users!

I would appreciate a little bit more responsibility if you release official versions and get bug reported that are so important.

Chuck S June 14th, 2006 09:40 AM

The fix posted by me is the correct fix and the build is being updated as we speak as the fix in that thread by the user is incorrect.

The user who posted in that thread is the one who marked the bug as minor although technically it is actually minor in nature.

Now secondly the bugfix itself which is in these threads you have an official answer within 18 hours as to the exact fix which is not bad considering it only affected certain integrations which is why it was hard to spot in the first place.

Chuck,

I know you are not a decision maker in these handling practices and therefore it is unfair that you get the complaints, but If I were "Mr. Photopost", I would make sure that all very basic and standard features are working correctly with every integration you are offering BEFORE releasing it as a non-beta. (and It was reported, that this is also with fresh installations by the way).

Basic functions are: Displaying of images & comments, upload/delete/move/ an image, e-mail notification, registration etc.

This takes about 30 minutes to test and I would expect photopost to do this for every release they offer since they get our money for the product.

The severity of a bug is not declared by the easiness of the fix. It depends on the consequences for the costumer. To have a gallery which does not display any comments suddenly is not minor at all. But I understand now that this was not a rating made by photopost.

It is just a matter of fact that I get angry, if I have to invest hours of my time, rsiking relationships with my users, just because basic functionality was not tested enough. I payed for the software but I do not get payed for testing this.

I am fine if there is a bug which is not that obvious or important in the consequence and not easy to test. But in this case, my tolerance is very small.

Again this is not meant for you, but I guess you know this :)

Dirk

Remember vbulletin has long drawn out beta periods. Even after this there are definately bugs found some minor some major.

Bugs will be found no matter whether it is beta or gold software and yes your right I am merely here to assist in fixing em ;)

Chuck,
What file do I change? a photopost file or something in my phpBB2?

Drew-SDM June 14th, 2006 09:42 PM

I have fixed the code....
And nothing happened...
It is still not showing user comments..

Drew-SDM June 14th, 2006 09:49 PM

OOps...Ok my bad...
red face...
It seems you have to also put it in the actual forum file you use...
Mine was "phpbb.php"

It works now..
Thanks for the help....

Chuck S June 15th, 2006 07:58 AM

Hi Chuck,

I just visited the members area and saw that the date and timestamp of the PP 5.31 download ist still the old one. Is it for sure that this is an updated downloadfile?

Why the datestamp is not modified then? Can you please remind Michael (as he is doing the uploads AFAIK), that this is a fundamental infomartion needed and that this should be always up date (this happened not the first time)

Thanks in advance

Chuck S June 16th, 2006 06:09 PM

The download is updated but yes I am not the one who maintains that but I shall pass along your thoughts.
