PP5.3: less random images than recent images

I can change the number of images and columns in admin menu for recent images. It seems that this setting also determines the number of random images diplayed on the index page.

Is there a way to have i.e. 16 recent images in 4 columns displayd on the index page, but only 4 or 8 random images in 4 columns on the same index page?

The featured photos block is handled by the same template and same function display_gallery so this would not be possible in the current code.

mmmhhh,

I am not a programmer, but would the following work?

If I duplicate the feature.tmpl, rename it to feature_random.tmpl and replace then in the file which is responsible to random images the link to "feature.tmpl" with "feature_random.tmpl".

I would then change the numbers of photos in the code of feature_random.tmpl. Would this work?

If yes, where do I have to insert that code?

Yes theoretically that would work if you modified your files to accomidate any changes you wanted to make. We do have modification forums for users to assist each other on issues which fall outside product support. We support our code as it is written and I am simply answering this question from a support perspective as this forum is where we answer questions on how to work the program.

Since this is not possible in PP 5.5, I would put this on my feature wish list for the next PP release, although not with a high priority.
