Does GD2 support GIF? Hi all, Is there a version of GD2 that will support GIF uploads? I am wanting to use the GD2 option, but, it fails when I attempt to upload a GIF file. GIF is a pretty standard image file type and there has got to be a version of GD2 that supports it by now. If there is, can someone show me where I can get some instructions to download and install a newer version? TIA -- Mike |
BTW, I am using Redhat Enterprise, so an RPM package installer would be perfect. |
Nope :( You need to use image magick. |
Yes GD2 2.028 and above support GIF images GIF is a real old image type not used alot anymore but licensing restrictions kept GD2 from having GIF support for many years. About a year ago the original companies license expired and GD2 was free to include support for GD2. Imagemagick has always had GIF support because they choose to pay the royalties to have permissions to use it. |
Ah, the fun part of licensing.... did you know that GD originally stood for GIF Display? They changed it to Graphics Display after running into troubles with the licensing. I spent some time looking this up at various places on the Internet. Do you know where I can find an RPM for GD2 2.028 for Redhat Enterprise ? |
GD2 is part of PHP and updating your PHP and installing with GD support should install the proper one as long as its a new PHP |
