Integration - headtags ?
In my on-going quest to get category descriptions into META tag in headtags for each category, and since my photopost pro is integrated with vbulletin.. how do i achieve this? since i can't find any instructions on how to do it precisely.
#1 How and where do i create seperate headtag files for each category so that there is a meta tag "description" for each category. for SEO purposes of course.
#2 I also would like to create a custom image header (if possible) for each category since it's integrated with vbulletin i would need to do something with multiple headers with vbulletin i think - if possible
thanks! (chuck! ;) )
Both of these have to do with modification so this is all I can say in a support capacity
1. The program does not support this at this time.
2. If you want to have a custom header per category turn off vb3 enhanced integration and use the Photopost header system cause you can specify a different header per category.
I'm a little confused. You said #1 it's not supported (category-specific headtags)
But inside each category there is the option:
Headtags Include File Path*:
(leave blank to use admin setting)
Do you mean I can't use this option because it won't work with vb integration?
I thought you where talking meta tags pulling file titles etc which is what you all have been talking about
As far as head tags for separate categories yes that only works with NO vb integration cause in vb integration we use there header system not ours.
well yeah i'm still not sure how to get the file description into the headtags.
but there's the thing. since headtags won't work because of the integration, all i am looking for is the vb default description that the photopost integration uses and swap that with the category description.
then build on this idea and do the same with the showphoto and swap the default meta description from vb with the photo's description.
now if i could get some decent pointers... ;)
Chuck, could you impart some of your wisdom :) and point me to the file that Photopost uses to pull the meta description from vbulletin? And then maybe offer a tidbit on how i could swap the category and photo descriptions with the default vb and put this to rest once and for all, or close to it ? :D
If you want to ask modification questions you can post about modifications in the mod forum. I am merely answering how the integration works and what you can and can not do.
I'm looking at this as well. As you know when vB integration is enabled, PhotoPost will use the default meta forum description and keywords throughout the gallery. This is not desirable and I would like to see an option to override this per category so we have the option to use the head tag files when vB integration is enabled.
Chuck, I'm getting frustrated with this.
The integration action shouldn't affect the gallery like this, it really doesn't make any sense to pull the default descriptions.
It makes even less sense to have to do a mod for this when it's an apparent feature / useability issue.
I am sorry your frustrated but nowhere in our documentation do we advertise custom spider friendly meta tags or such. From a support perspective I can tell you as I have stated many times you can load meta tags per category or globally using a headtags html file. This is what is supported and this is what is built within the program. If you want to use the Photopost header system to load different category tags then you must turn off the advanced vb3 integration so you do not use the vb3 header system and use our system.
If you are trying to have different meta tags based on the product information on showphoto then you will need to modify the current code base and this falls outside product support as has been posted in many threads already. You will need to post in the modifications forum for that.
But as stated if all your doing is trying to load different meta tags on showcat per category my FIRST POST in this thread told you how to do that ;)
I'm not worried about spider friendly meta tags and stuff anymore just getting the category descriptions to override the integration defaults.
Chuck - if I disable the integration like you say, then that disables integration entirely correct?
No it does not disable vb3 logins
Disabling the enhanced integration disables the vb header footer system and stylesheet integration etc.
Your users will still be logged into Photopost and be able to use it with there vb login.
Ok, so the only thing that ges disabled are styles? Post counts and all the other integration stuff works correct? Just want to make sure.
Chuck - if i do this, can i still keep the integration "looK" by copying and pasting the vb style i want and making a theme for pp ? will that make it look like the style is still integrated also?
If you match the photopost style names for a style to the same as the vb style classes yes. Here is the match routine we use in Photopost
This is what i did:
My site keywords = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
My site description = 12345
I have a category named:
I added headtags file to this category and a header file as well.
Where should the contents of headtag and header file get displayed on source code of that gallery category ?
headtags are displayed in the head tag of the page
If you turn off the vb3 enhanced integration you shall have a normal Photopost that has the login integrated with vb and then you can use the photopost header system for different headers per cat.
I added the header and headtags after turning off vbulletin enhanced integration, specified the file locations as unix file paths.
chmodded both the files to 777
this is how the same appears.
look what i found
from the above buried thread i found this:
Chuck - how about this > having a header file for each category. something like 'category#' instead of 'header2' perhaps? your thoughts? which is, basically, naming headtags for each category and having them called here, or something.
btw - the vb integration kills the purpose of having custom headtags and it seems crazy to have to go through all this mystery to try and figure out something that should have it's own workaround installed. it's like switching on the air conditioning in your car and not being able to use the radio ;) (or an anology along those lines)
on further thought
and i gotta get some sleep for work tomorrow but the more i think of this...
as another option...
can't we go into the header-inc file, and simply disable the call for the default vb header so that any header named in the category's headtags is used? and if not, then use the default pp header instead of vb's ?
i want the same style, i want the integration, i don't want to have to edit a new style and go through all this insane amount of work and trouble to get 1 little part to work (right).
I think your not understanding the issue I posted here on how each program works. The tweak you noted by me is to define an alterate header template for the gallery for vb to load on every page and has nothing to do with headtags. All that does is load a different header over Photopost globally for every gallery page. San-Deep wants a different header systems on each of his Photopost cats. The good ole optional header function. Vbulletin as well as our program both have the ability to setup in their respective admin panels special optional headers/footers/headtags for their forums or categories so you can have a different header footer for each forum/cat.
By nature the special functions of defining specific headers per cat is a function of each piece of software but not interchangable you need to use each software's specific header function to use it you can not expect vb to load a different header per category over photopost it only does that in its product.
Now hopefully you understand the point I am making here. You ask a question on how to operate something and I tell you yes or no whether the program can do this. In this case it is not going to do what he wants using the vb header system so the answer is to turn this off and use the Photopost header system which will gladly handle this type of function the same as vbulletin's header system gladly handles this type of function on its forums.
