allowed memory size for image-inc.php?

I test-uploaded an image while logged in as an admin, and it was uploaded and in the forums just fine. But when I logged in as a regular user and tried to upload a pretty small image file (122kb) I got this error on a completely blank page:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 9088 bytes) in /hsphere/local/home/insitu/thehamsterwheel.net/secure/gallery/image-inc.php on line 84

I have set users to have the same upload limits as an admin. Any ideas on what's going on and how to fix it?

Managed to find your solution/trick with the "ini_set("memory_limit", "32M");", and thankfully, in my case, it worked.
