How do I add a top level category?

It doesnt seem to work right...

I click on edit categories in the menu
then add top level category

but instead of adding a top level category, it adds it as a subcategory

actually this is very frustrating.... why on earth wont it add a top level category?

can someone clarify this?

Top level category simply means a category that is not a subcat of another.

Are you trying to make a category that will not contain images? If so in edit categories set Contains Thumbs to NO. This will give the cat the long cat bar.
