Display new comments/photos indicator on index?

So I had this question for a while now...so in the admin panel "index options" you have a setting for "Display new comments/photos indicator on index?" Switching this on and off, I have never seen anything change. What is that option for and what should it do?

It works

The arrow changes color. It will light up or show yellow when there is a new upload you have not seen

Ahh ok that makes sense then. I thought there was going to be an indicator under each photo with view/coments.

Nah the arrow just changes color much like the post indicators on vbulletin folder things
