Limiting User By Member Groups

I am looking into making members of group A see the thumbnails with an overlay watermark (AKA doesnt hurt the original image) but not able to see the whole image when clicked (aka they will go to a page that says something to the effect no access etc). But if they are in Group B they will get full access.. Is there a way to do this?
