Modifying Index Page

Hi,

I wanna customize the index page but the way the templates are layed out, it would require me majorly editing the categories.tmpl file. Obviously, I don't wanna do that because it I don't wanna change it for all the other pages that use categories.tmpl

The other way I thought of doing this is just editing the index.php file directly and remove the include of the categories.tmpl and put my stuff there in palce.

Is there another way that is "recommended" before I break stuff?

Well categories.tmpl is only used by showgallery and index

You could make a new template and point index to use that but make sure you follow the proper coding or you will break everything

Ok, thanks. After I make my new template file, how do I add it to the template list on the admin page?

Basically you need to copy it to the templates folder and edit index.php to use it
