Default Thumbnail?

I was wondering how I could get a default thumbnail for the index.php page? I have a few sections that don't have images in them just yet and I'd like them sections to have a default thumbnail till I set one later of an image in that cat...

You have to have an image in a category to tag an item as an INDEX THUMB

Ok I figured that would work but was hoping I didn't have to do it like that.

Yes just how it works. You tag an image to be the thumb for that category but to work the image must exist in that category
