Control Layout Below Categories

Which template do i play with control the layout of blocks below the categories

i don't necessarily like that random image calendar etc all appear below one another - i'd like to try and get some of them side by side

undercat.tmpl or if you use sidebars undercat-sidebar.tmpl

i am trying to get the calendar and statistics to appear side by side underneath the categories

tried adding this to the undercat template but nothing happened - how can i get this to work - thanks
