How biding works

Hi I am testing bids and getting weird numbers.

First bid is always 0,25 regardless what I bid.
New bids are different numbers then somebody bids.
Sometimes I get - you are outbid, eventhoug I havent placed any automated bid through another account (anyway there is not any automated system).

Please advise!

Bids are incremented as assigned by there amount. Yes .25 cents is the lowest increment.

ok here is the example
1.auction started at 0,-
2.USERnr.1 place first bid 100,- but it is showing 0,25 (also in history)
3.USERnr.2 place bid 500,- - it is showing 110
4.USERnr.2 place bid 999,- .... nothing happend
5.USERnr.1 place bid 8000,-....showing highest bid at 1024,- (1025+999???)
6.USERnr.2 place bid 5000,-.... showing (you have been outbid) and 5025,-
7.USERnr.2 place bid 6000,-.... showing (you....outbid) and 6025,-
8.USERnr.2 place bid 9000,-.... showing 8025,-

Now I got it! I would expect that auciton always show the highest bid, until you have some sort of agent that will track your "secret" highest bid and will outbid anybody else until it reaches your "highest secret amount"

It looks like this agent is default option here, which is short end for seller...

My questions:
1. What wiil happen at the end of auction? Will seller get 9000,- or 8025,- (i assume 8025,-)
2. Is there any way to turn of this "agent" service? or have it customized by buyer?
3. How or where to change increments? My currency has more zeros than USD .-)
4. I do not really use any auctions, that is why I have all these questions...
I am thinking about increments, because you might want to sell something for few hundreds or few thousands like 200k and would prefer bigger scale for increments (I expect you have at least two levels 0,25 and 25 - havent tried more options really).

The bidding works like eBay, you set the maximium amount you will pay for an item and the sciprt will auto increment the bids based on someone elses highest bid. That means you only end up paying a bit over the other persons highest bid, but not necessarily your max bid. Does that make sense?

In bids.php we control the increments of the increase, which depends on the current price of the item. We only increment .25 if the current bid is less than $10.

You can change the increments in bids.php:

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
This says if the current bid is less than $10, the price increments .25 - if the bid is less than $50, then the price increments $1 and so on.

You can change the .25, 1, 5, 10 values to suit your needs should you need to (there are two places in bids.php where we do this).

Yes it makes sense, just that i have expected something else .-)
It was maybe my "seller" angle...
Also I bid on eBay year ago and havent use any max. feature....

Thanks for showing code, I have already found it also in another post too .-) also with some modifications...

p.s. please change the title to something like "bids algorithm" or "how biding works" or anything that will be more helpfull .-)
p.s.2 I should have read help (will move the help next to bid textbox)
