Upgrade before solving error problem?

Part I--After searching for the answers to my questions, I have noticed the adivce to upgrade my 4.8 version to the new 5.13 security version. Should I do this before worrying about the errors some of the people receive who try to upload pics?

Part II--I've had PP for over a year and no problems. Now, I've got 2 people who cannot upload photos, but many others still can and I can upload through admin for them. Here is the problem:

The first one has uploaded many pics before, and now gets this error:

Warning: imagecreatefromjpeg(): '/home/coordina/public_html/photopost/uploads/74/IMG_3020.jpg' is not a valid JPEG file in /home/coordina/public_html/photopost/image-inc.php on line 81

"Unable to create image [/home/coordina/public_html/photopost/uploads/74/img_3020.jpg]. Please contact system administrator"

When she creates a 'test' user, she is able to upload just fine.

The second one is new and gets this error:

Unable to create image [/home/coordina/public_html/photopost/uploads/277/2005_Layouts_034.jpg].
Please contact system administrator.

TIA!

I would suggest you clear there uploads directories and upgrade.

Dumb question...how do I 'clear' a directory without deleting the pics?

So then after the upgrade, will I have to enter each pic one by one back to their directory, or can it be done in one bulk move?

clear the uploads directory not the data directories. Clearing the uploads directories will clear any bad pics that may be blocking things.

ok, but still not sure where to 'clear the uploads' directory....I don't see anything like that in admin.

Well you need to FTP to your server and manually delete any files under the uploads directory. The new version will delete an upload if it cant process. Your version you would need to remove that corrupt file yourself

Just to double check – do you want me to delete ALL the images in the uploads folders? There are a LOT!

You can delete everything under uploads folder as the user directories for upload would be created again. You just dont wanna delete anything under data directory

Drats! Didn't work. This is what I got this time.

Warning: fopen(/home/coordina/public_html/photopost/uploads/277/index.htm): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/coordina/public_html/photopost/pp-inc.php on line 1474

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/coordina/public_html/photopost/pp-inc.php on line 1475

/home/coordina/public_html/photopost/uploads/277: Error creating directory (check permissions).

Please notify the System Administrator
