video files in other folders?

Just playing around and was curious about something.
I have thousands of video's and was thinking about using photopost as my "frontend" for them. The problem I have is that the drive that photopost is mounted on is not the drive with the video's, nor is it anywhere near big enough to hold them all.
I know when I import a picture it adds them to the uploads dir which is perfect.

Is there a way when adding a new multimedia file, to have it reside where it's actually at without importing it? Kinda like a "hotlink" to the file itself on the array?
If so how do I do it?

can the multimedia files actually reside on an entirelly different server?
