| 2 problems: Random Images and saving jpgs in IE
Hello
I purchased photopost 5.12 (currently using version 5.13) to make it easy for my family to share photos. I like it, except for a few problems that are bothering the intended users.
First of all, I am unable to turn off "Random Images" on the index page. The setting under Index Options in the Admin control panel seems to do nothing whether set to yes or no. Any workarounds?
Now, a more serious problem. When people using Internet Explorer right click and choose Save Picture As on gallery photos (jpg files) the only choice available for saving is bitmap (.bmp). This does not occur using other browsers, like Mozilla or Mozilla Firefox or Opera. I have not seen this occur with older versions of PhotoPost on other servers. (I've only ever had the current version on mine). Personally I don't have a lot of patience for Internet Explorer, but the intended users all use IE. Anyone else seen this, and is there any help for it?
Thanks for any help with these problems,
Mike Houston

P.S. I should mention that it's a Linux server, and I am using the GD2 library for image processing, if that's relevant.

Well this is a computer users home computer issue for IE and not one of our software. Here is a microsoft support thread on the issue that should help you http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810978 |

I'm well aware of that information, thanks.
It is not a problem saving any other jpegs, only from photopost and it seems to affect all IE browsers, not just one that I'm testing with. At my sister's house, my aunt's house, my mom's laptop, my dad's desktop system, and also IE opened for the first time running in a vmware virtual machine on my own system. It happens with IE 5 too. It happens here on this site at the Photo Gallery as well, so it's not specific to my photopost installation on my server either. (I thought to try that after posting my original question).
I just got two other people located in different parts of the World to test this with IE, and they report the same.
I also went to another site that is running PhotoPost 3.2.1 and I can save the first picture normally, but if I click to show the full size, on that image it is the same behaviour. "untitled" and bitmap is the only option to save it, if I right click and choose "Save Picture
It is as if Internet Explorer is not getting the file information... it shows "untitled" for the filename and the only available choice is to save as a bitmap. Again, other browsers are fine.
There is still the matter of the Admin setting to disable Random Images not working also.
Thanks,
Mike

Well you must have the random ads on. Check your setting again. I dont see a link to your site but I certainly cant reproduce that. http://omegatron.net/pp/index.php
As far as the IE thing it is totally a user's computer issue and nothing to do with software thats on a server. I get an image title when I save as a picture. Try in the support thread moving your temp directory

I can't get anybody else to make this work correctly with IE. Are you implying that everybody needs to move their temporary internet files? I already told you that I tried it with a fresh copy of IE. I don't have a problem with any browser in Linux, nor is there a problem with non-IE browsers in Windows. Anyway, to Hell with IE, I'm sick to death of that trash. I don't mind it wasting my time when I'm charging someone by the hour, but this is not the case here. I guess I'll just host a download of Mozilla Firefox and point users who complain, to it.
I did so have Random Images turned off, and I've toggled the setting to both Yes and No hoping it would refresh the change but it does not. I can see the key in the mysql database and it's value is "Yes"
keyname: Random Image PAL
variable: randompal
description: Display Random Image?
value: yes
I changed the value to no with a query and now the Random Images PAL is gone from the index page, since the script isn't doing it and there's probably no help for it.
Thanks anyway,
Mike

I'm sorry I won't post it, but I just sent you an email with the private information.
Thanks for looking,
Mike
P.S. I tend to agree that it's a problem with IE and not to be blamed on PhotoPost, but I don't think there's anything wrong on the clients' ends.

Maybe some issue with NAT, is the only thing I can think of. As far as I know, all the people I've been talking to are connecting to the Internet through a router. (Including all systems real and virtual at my place)
I have no idea how that could affect IE in getting the file info, but I can't think of anything else that might be different.
Thanks for your time. If I should happen to discover the reason why this is happening, I will reply back to this thread so it's documented.
