Mandate watermarks?

Is there a way to make watermarks *mandatory* on all the pictures that users upload? Also, I rigged up a .gif file with transparcency properties and filled in the server URL, and it *seems* to work correctly, but I saw a post on here that said the watermark file MUST be a .png? Will a .gif file work correctly?

Hi..

I believe that .png is a trouble free way to watermark using GD2 or IM (image magick) im sure most installations of IM can handle .gif's aswell as newer versions on GD2

Once the watermark feature is enabled and the category watermark settings are set all pictures will be watermarked according to usergroups.
