Get rid of left column

How do I get rid of the Statistics and Random Images column that is left of the main page? I'm hoping to fill the page with the main area with the categories. I find the stats on top of the page to the left with its own bare column to be a waste of screen real estate.

I find the templating maddening for such an advanced script. It's almost impossible to figure out what is where and what each template stands for. Finding where items are located is brutal.

Turn off sidebar in admin sidebar options

Thanks - I ended up finding it in index.php but this is easier.

I'm still having challenges (note that the show comments on front page doesn't exactly work when you turn it off. It shows the columns anyways.) The templating system and options are maddening.
