Uploading pics - error message received

When attempting to upload a jpeg named floridaflyfisher2.jpg I get the following error messages...

Warning: imagecreatefromjpeg(): '/data/0/0/16/140/16955/user/17332/htdocs/photopost/uploads/1/floridaflyfisher2.jpg' is not a valid JPEG file in data001614016955user17332htdocsphotopostimage-inc.php on line 84

Unable to create image [/data/0/0/16/140/16955/user/17332/htdocs/photopost/uploads/1/floridaflyfisher2.jpg].

Most of the time when I encounter these errors, if I keep trying I can work thru the errors, but this particular jpeg file refuses to load without generating this error. I have produced this error 5 times, so it is very consistent.

Is jpegtran present? If so does the file upload if you remove jpegtran

How do I verify if jpegtran is present?

jpeg path now cleared and still receiving an error

I went to Global Options then jpegtran path box and cleared all the text out of the path box and saved changes, cleared browser cache and still getting the following error...

What processor you using?
Have you checked the data directories to ensure they are 777?

JSDillon March 28th, 2005 09:24 AM

My directory permissions are set at 2775, it will not allow me to set them to 0777. However, I have uploaded pics before so why would it randomly select certain .jpeg files to give me an error message for if this is a permissions issue?

This is an extremely important issue, I do need to resolve it.

JSDillon March 28th, 2005 09:28 AM

Also, you ask me what processor I am using? Can you eleborate because I do want to answer any questions in order to get this problem solved. My customers can not even do something as simple as upload a pic. I do need to fix this.

JSDillon March 28th, 2005 09:41 AM

Also wanted to add, the error message is not specific to me. Any customer trying to upload pics is receiving the same error message.

I decided to upload a different file type to see if the problem would change and it did change. When uploaded a .gif file, this was the result=>

Update on error status when uploading pics

I am able to successfully upload .GIF files. It is only giving me the error message when I attempt to upload a JPEG file. I would think that if it lets me successfully upload anything, then the permissions should not be the problem. Has anyone else had this problem when uploading JPEGs?

Chuck S March 28th, 2005 02:29 PM

You site is so extremely slow I wonder if this does not have anything to do with anything

You definately have some issues with the server. There is no reason it should take 45-60 seconds to login or 45-60 seconds to process something when you click a link.

How long has your entire site been this slow?

Chuck S March 28th, 2005 02:38 PM

If you can upload a gif but not jpeg or jpg then your jpg libraries on the server are corrupt or locked down so gd2 can not use them.

Takes me forever to do anything on your install

Can you locate mogrify on the server and see if that processor works?

JSDillon March 28th, 2005 03:38 PM

Network Solutions is the host provider and this is the original speed of the server.

I am not using ImageMagick so would I even be using mogrify?

Chuck S March 28th, 2005 03:51 PM

Well with the speed of that server I am surprised anything works.

Imagemagick would be a way to test if installed to see if there is an issue with your image processor

Basically if your able to upload gif images fine but not jpeg or jpg then the issue is with your image processor and not Photopost.

JSDillon March 28th, 2005 05:39 PM

I am going to install ImageMagick as I think this is better than GD2 anway... Do not close this thread just yet

Chuck S March 28th, 2005 06:13 PM

LOL wont close it on ya.

I have copied the ImageMagick-5.3.8.2.tar.gz file to my imagemagick directory. I am now attempting to unpack it. The instructions located at
http://www.photopost.com/magicknoroot-php.html
inform me to enter

$ tar -xvf ImageMagick-5.3.8.2.tar

to unpack this file I am guessing. Can you tell me where they are entering this command?

I do have Putty and I am able to establish an SSH connection. However, I am not sure where you are actually entering this command. Possibly a screen shot of successful execution would be nice. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Chuck S March 28th, 2005 06:52 PM

No not use that old imagemagick

download the latest from Imagemagick.net

You use putty and ssh and enter the commands on the nonroot instructions
