Category Thumbnails

I see that this is a new feature. How do I set a photo to be the category thubm? Can I have it random?

What is a category avatar? Same as a thumb?

You cannot have it random, but when viewing an image you can select Make Index Thumb and it will become the category avatar (assuming you have them enabled in the admin).

You will then see then make index thumb in showphoto as Michael posted
