Back up and permissions issue

When performing an FTP of the photopost folder I run into the following problem. Permission on some of the files within the data dir , actually the thumb files will not let me back them up due to the way the permissions are set on them. I can not change them for some reason probably because they are owned by the server. I had this problem before and was hoping photpost would fix my issue. Has anyone else ran into this problem and how can I fix it without having to ask my provider to change the permissions on the files.

Thanks
Mark

Good question, and the simple answer is : you don't! - your problem is unusual though and i'm sure any host worth it's salt would allow you to backup a directory on your account via ftp to your harddrive.

I can backup the directory , however some files for some reason will have the permissions set so that I can not back them up. If I try to change them to 644 like the rest of the files in the dir it wont let me.

I must admit this is weird... so chmod won't do it, hows about via 'cpanel' if your host has this?

I was using a different gallery program and had the same issue, had to ask the host whenever I wanted to do a backup to chmod a few files. For some reason I cant FTP files that are not set properely. I can change folders but not all files in the folders. It kind of sucks that I have to ask them to change the permissions. I just want to be able to be in control and perfom backups to my computer via FTP.
