How to display category images?

How can i convert this ugly list from

to display images for albums like in the users galleries like this:

well thats two different things but if you want your categories to show the last thumb upload the alternate categories.tmpl in the templates/alternate folder to your main templates folder

Those are alterate templates when using CSS image tags to wrap tables like seen here
