Pp4.85 Compact cats not showing?

I am using Pp 4.8.5

And I dont see the compact marker on the Index page?
It shows in the catagory display in the admin Index..

The expand/collapse marker only appears on category where the "thumbs" is set to NO and you do not display details for children in the parent ("Show post count and photo details for cats without thumbs?" should be set to NO) (no room to display it).

where do you remove the 'last comment' and the 'last photo upload' column

I removed them from the categories.tmpl template so they don't show at all.
