Transfering Site, how to transfer photos and comments??

Hi,

I am changing my host and at the same time, have designed new site. Now I need to transfer only images, and user comments posted on the old site.

I will be transfering VB users and comments using VB utility. Would like to know what is the procedure for transfering ONLY photos, thumbnails and comments.

Please help, as you can understand its crucial in site transfer

Well lets see it is like this

gzip the data directory and contents and transfer to new site data directory

Take backups of the categories comments and photos tables

Restore these to the new install

You should be fine as long as the data files and the sql tables are there.

Omegatron, this will work if my site is replica of old site, but it is not. There are different additional categories added in the new site. The old categories are there but I think there Cat IDs are changed.

Hod do I handle this specially incase of table transfers?

You did not say specifically this was going to be melded into another site. You can not really unless you do some manual work and fancy sql

As far as the old site you need to restore at a minimum what I stated because existing images and comments need to categories table associated with them also imported correctly with the correct id's

I would take the existing site and rename all cats to a number higher than where the old one ends or make the cat numbers the same as the old site for the ones that are the same. Make sure to manually change the cats under the data directory to the proper new id

Then update your current photos and comments tables to the new id's you made but again you have a big problem. Your photos and comments numbers need to be reassigned to a higher id than your old tables ending ones.

But you should get the idea above the changes needed
