4.8.1 - Inherit Catgory Settings/Permissions

Ok, I know I brought this up before but I cannot seem to find it...

When a parent category has certain settings, why is it when I make a new subcategory within that parent, it does NOT inherit the parent category settings (even though I checked the box).

It does not inherit permissions when created as when you create it defaults are loaded.

You can edit the parent after and set permissions to inherit. This feature is only available when you edit a cat not create one.

That surely does not make any sense to me... it clearly says, "*Check box to apply these settings and permissions to all children: "

Now to me, that means any category I make under that parent will obtain those permissions.

Is that not what I just said Steve?

You missed what I said. That box works on existing child categories. I beleive Michael had stated before that in creating new subcategories that box is not usuable since you in essense creating a child cat. You would need to edit the parent and hit that check box to scan the categories and double check all new child cats created.

When you create a new child, it is suppose to grab the default items from the parent when you create it. The checkbox itself is a one time thing that scans children and resets the options you have selected.

Cool then, but it does not work like this for me. Well, at least in regards to the optional fields. I have a set of optional fields for my database section and different fields for each subcat of the database. However, when I create new subcats of the database, it is not pulling in those extra fields. I have to go back and select the check box in order for it to do so.
