| blocking user groups from uploading to certain categories does not work
I just noticed that all the categories I have set to only view and not upload to, the members can still upload to those categories.
I have to shut down the contest archive category so no one uploads to it, and also starting this week, I wanted to shut down the current contest category on Friday and reopen it again for uploads on Sunday.
I unchecked every single user group I created for Uploads, but kept them checked to view. I also kept the allow to post checked because that must mean comments only right?
How can I get this to work?
Thanks,
Ruth

ok, I am confused.
The account I have created for myself set for standard user account is able to see and upload to any category I have blocked.
I just went back to search a user that hasn't logged in since 2003, no posts or uploads, so I don't expect them to return.
I changed the password so I can use that account to see how it works, and with that account, I only see those categories I allow them to upload to.
Why would those accounts behave different when they are both set as standard registered users?

If your making users that are in multiple usergroups then they are going to have the best possible permissions so its all about what your doing and assigning as permissions.
If you create a user who is only in a specific usergroup that can view and not upload then thats all they will be allowed to do.

vbulletin user groups have no settings to upload or post comments on the Photopost side of the website.
I have every user group except me as admin to be able to upload to the category I designate. Every one of my participating weekly members 100, all are tagged for different user groups, its how I give them ribbons for the contests they win within the ranking system.
I need them to belong to all those user groups. Has to be a way to do this.

If you set a category in edit categories that a usergroup can not upload then they will not be allowed to upload to that category thats absolute. So if they can upload to that category they have to belong to some group you have given access to upload to that category.

ok, back to this problem again
Our contests run Mon-Sun. On Friday, I have been marking the contest category that all user groups can view, post comments but not upload the rest of the week until I open it again on Monday. Only user group I allow is the admin group which is only my husband and I. It seemed to work the past 2 weeks only because I saw uploads to the contest stop on Friday nights. But today (Sunday) just saw someone able to upload a new photo for the contest. How is this happening when all user groups are set in PP admin user group area to not be able to upload?

Usergroup permissions are as I state. They are absolute. If you give a usergroup permission to upload they can upload. Now you can refine permissions under admin edit categories for each category the usergroup upload perms.
If someone can upload then they have to be in a usergroup you allow to upload.

That was exactly what I had done (refine permissions under admin edit categories for each category the usergroup upload perms)
I unchecked every user group under the contest category so it only allowed admins to upload and no one else.
that's why I'm baffled it allowed someone to upload that is not an admin.

well if you pass along site info and logins for us to login and check permissions and try logging in as one of these users then we can try but as stated from what I am seeing in my testing if I restrict someone then they are restricted.
