| Search photo stuck and cant return back to previous
Thought I posted this one already, but guess not because I dont see it listed in the forum of all my posts.
I've noticed this a few places on the website.
If I'm viewing this category.............. Contest Current Week Entries - BytePhoto Galleries
and maybe I want to just see what photos were uploaded in the past day all together, I click the Recent Photos 1 day
the results Search - BytePhoto Galleries
Now I'm stuck, I can no longer click anywhere on the website that will get me back to the root of the category, nor does the back button on the browser get me there.
Same thing happens when I go to our page BytePhoto.com - Photo gallery and contest community - BytePhoto Galleries
I scroll down to the calendar and I decided to click one of the days to see what happens and it then does a search for all pictures uploaded that day.
Which is a cool feature, but it doesn't really get me anywhere. Search - BytePhoto Galleries
All I am seeing is a micro mini thumbnail that I really cant tell what the picture is. So I click the thumbnail to view it and instead of the hitting next button go to the next picture within my search, it goes to the next picture within whatever category the first clicked picture was uploaded to.
To go back and do the same thing for the 18 pictures uploaded that day that I's like to see, is very cumbersome.
It seems to be the same search function as the my favorites. Just a list of small thumbnails with no titles or photographers name and no way to view them even in a slide show.
Any ideas?

It's not a bug, just how search is designed to work. Search is a gallery view of the photos you searched for. You can click on a thumbnail to see the photo and use the back button to get back to your search results. Searching does not alter the navigation while viewing the photo you clicked on.
This is identical to how you, say, search for a thread/post in vBulletin.

Its a bug to me, the version that was run on the website before never worked this way. It really doesn't seem logical to me or any of my users.
Just so you know, the browser back button does not work in this case. All it does is keep re-searching the same search I set up.
Also, the previous and next buttons do not work properly.
I uploaded 8 photos today to a specific category
Each photo is titled for the months March through October
see below how they are all in order
Then click on the March photo to view and no Next button appears, just a « <Previous>
Then I go back and click the 2nd photo titled April, clicking next should being me to the next photo titled May, but instead it takes me back to March 2009 POTY Finalists - BytePhoto Galleries
You <next> and <previous> buttons are working backwards
I tried this on about 4 separate gallery categories and they all work backwards.
Then I go to My Photos and click on the first picture - BytePhoto Galleries
which takes me here that happens to also be in the (Contest Current Week Entries) category
I click next and it takes me to a photo that was from last weeks entry and is not even in the (Contest Current Week Entries) Please Read POTW Voting Rules - BytePhoto Galleries |

You where running an extremely old version of the photo gallery. The search function has worked the way it does not for many years and many versions ago. Functionality in software does change and I am sure knowing how old your version was that you are finding many changes.

yes, I'm finding new things that I like, but still having things that are not working correctly like the next and previous buttons.
We are getting emails from users that are wondering the same thing why the next/previous button/links don't seem to take you to the next photo in that gallery as I explained above

next or previos may take you to the next or previous in a set of images they do not necessary take you to the numeric photos previous to them thats not how it works or ever should work.
We dont do counts say your on 54 and your prev next would be 53 and 55. The next previous links are relative to where you are the category viewing condition etc.

hmmm, trying to figure out exactly what you mean. So if I uploaded the March photo 1st then the April photo second, May 3rd, would that make those photos 53, 54 & 55 since thats the order I uploaded them?
Or is it also including any photos that could have been uploaded by other users during the time I was uploading mine? so if another user uploaded 2 photos between the time I uploaded 53 and 54, my 54 then becomes 56?

It shows photos say in order in a category. That does not mean they are necessarily in numerical order because not all photos are uploaded to one specific category plus your sort you where using matters also. Variety - ReefTalk Gallery |

I'm having the same problem. I want the previous and next photos to be in numerical order that they were uploaded in, not by category or member. At Splitcoaststampers.com, you are able to do this and that's what we need in order to make sure that we leave comments on everybody's work. Right now, we leave a comment, go back to home, hit ALL and then go to the next picture after the one that we just left a comment on. It's a real pain and a total waste of time. Everybody uploads their pics to a category if it's available and we need the cats to search if we're looking for something specific, but the software in how it's working now is not productive or user friendly in this regard and as I said in an earlier post about 30 minutes ago, I've been trying to work on my gallery for about a year now and really haven't gotten anywhere but with a lot of member complaints.

well that simple is not how it has ever functioned ever since the next previous was added.
if your in a category or viewing a users photos then your next previous should be the photos in that category or by that user depending on how your viewing things. Thats why there is a list of like 6 or 7 different query scenerios.

You can set a category to Sort By Date - which would sort them by the order they are uploaded in. You do this in the "Edit Categories" section, for a category and the option "Default Sort Order*:" and set it to "Latest" - then it will display them in order they were uploaded in for that category.
When you search and click on a thumbnail, you go to that photo in that category and see the prev and next displayed in that manner.

Hi Michael. I'm currently set to that now. Setting aside categories and member galleries, what I'm after is when you pull up the entire gallery, like ALL, click on the first picture, make a comment on it, and then click the arrow to go to the next picture, I want it to be the next picture that was uploaded regardless of how it was categorized. For instance, this is the first picture in the gallery: photo/1589291?&limit=last1
Then I click the Next Image or arrow and get this: photo/1589290?&limit=last1
The next would be 1589289, etc.

The photos do not display in exact side by side numeric order. Look at that special coded gallery SCS your referring to there next previous are not in direct numeric order. There is huge gaps inbetween.
Say for instance your in category 503 on your site and you have the sort set to LATEST. That is going to sort photos by date descending from category 503.
what that means in laymans terms is your next previous images are going to go in numeric order from that category 503. The next or previous will stop once they finish cycling through that sequence of results.

That really does make perfect sense. They're all set to Latest so I think that I'm stuck in a hole or something. Let's say that I'm cruising along in generic Member Galleries and then somebody puts their picture into a category. When I hit the arrow for next (that I'd still like to change to Next Image), then I'm stuck in that category, then I get stuck in the particular member gallery and end up going back to pictures from August or something rather than seeing all of the latest pictures no matter what category or user.

It all depends on how your getting places and what your triggering as Michael posted and how I posted. what would be a bug is showing images just in numerical order regardless of what category your in. could you imagine all the confusion there if someone is say viewing pictures of trees and they hit next and are somewhere viewing cats.

It's a chick craft thing and it's hard for you guys to understand. We just put the pictures in the category, like Stampin' Up!, so that if somebody was specifically looking for SU cards/scrapbook pages, what have you, then they know to look there and will do it. We're also very good about keywording. Our main interest is being able to cruise the gallery like I've been talking about, leaving each other comments on how great their work is, and keep that up daily rather than get caught in the loops I've been talking about. The gallery has one thing and one thing only and that is paper crafts. The categories are the different types of vendors who make the paper crafts. If we make a project using Verve Stamps, we're going to upload it to that gallery. Let's say this was a masculine get well card. In the keyword section, we're going to put the name of the stamp set, masculine get well card. Then if somebody needs ideas for a masculine get well card, they're going to use the search feature to find one and it doesn't matter who makes it. I hope all that makes sense. We'd just like to be able to go from picture to picture regardless of gallery and member uploading it, as well as get rid of those arrows and have "Previous," "Next Image," etc. That's all that I'm really after.
How we are getting places is going to the gallery, hitting the ALL button, get everything, take a look at what's been uploaded that day and pretty much memorize it, make a comment, hit the next arrow hoping that's the next picture we remember seeing. Sometimes we're in luck - mostly we're not. Then we have to go Home and start the process all over again. It's not good.
The numerical order is the order that the pictures are uploaded in and I want that.

Cindy I guess your not understanding what I am explaining how this feature works and the basic navigation. If you post 250 photos all in one category you probally will get your previews to get pretty gosh darn in order but thats not how a gallery works. Pam comes along uploads layouts to 4 different categories. Sue comes by does the same. Joy does the same. So you have 4 different categories of layouts. You view one of those categories your only going to see layouts from that category in whatever sort order is set. Your not going to see work from the other categories they uploaded to most likely. If all your photos are in one category them maybe you could achieve what you wish but then again thats not feasible for most sites.
As previously posted in this thread or another but to you as explained Photopost 7.01 does not use images for next previous images. I even posted a link so if your using 7.01 you should not have images for next previous. what is your site?

| Clear Dollar Stamps - Gallery
Okay well I cant see your photos because you dont allow guests to view but take for instance this is a cat it has 16 photos in it. I bet if you view a photo in that category your next previous image displays are going to be from those 16 images in category 544
Hope this assists you in understanding how the preview images work
Same thing category with 42 images in it your preview images are going to be made up from those 42 images etc Layers of Color - Gallery |
