Pictures disappeared after Scan Database

Hi,

I'm running Photopost at Main Index - Pakistani Pictures

At first, I was having a problem where thumbnails were not appearing when browsing some of the galleries. The thumbnails would not appear, but clicking on the filename would bring up the full size photo.

In the admin panel I did Database --> Scan Database and checked these options:

Quote:
Check for and create missing thumbnails.
Rebuild all thumbnails.
Rebuild all medium images.
Check here to watermark unwatermarked files.
Check here to recalculate photos/posts numbers and check children.
Check here to rescan photos and save EXIF information.
Check here to scan for duplicate entries for same photo.
After doing this, now many of the galleries have lost all of their pictures and stats. (if you scroll down, you'll see many of the galleries towards the bottom show no pictures and no stats for comments, etc).

Any idea what could have caused this?

thanks.

Your pictures look there to me?

If you ran a scan database if you where missing all your pictures without checking to see your host did not change your server hosting paths you would effectively delete your photos sure.

Thats why backups are essential for any site. I would assume because I see all your photos you restored a backup and corrected the path.

If you just lost some of your pictures I would suggest you ensure those actual data directories exist on the server and somehow they where deleted because if Photopost can not actually find the photo it will delete the photo entry.

The paths are the same, the images are in there too.

Please check Main Index - Pakistani Pictures

Half of the albums are fine, the other half are not at bottom, the stats show 0, but the paths are still the same for them and all the pictures are in those folders.

So in this case what should I do? I am willing to pay you 50US if you can have a look at my settings and try to find a fix for it. Please let me know if I should PM you.

Thanks

My suggestion is to make sure safe mode is off in PHP.

Make sure your data directories exist like directory 605 does indeed exist under data

Make sure the data directory is set to 777 permissions under data at every level.

It looks like your path is correct under global options and storage options but you should check it.

/home2/pakstop/public_html/pictures/data/

I just checked php.ini and safe mod is OFF

Quote:
allow_call_time_pass_reference = On

; Safe Mode
;
safe_mode = Off
Are you sure its not off?

And yes the path is correct, and I just chmodded the data folder again by typing

chmod -R 777 data

Now what should I do? Should I go to "PhotoPost Database Administration " and run the following things? Like in the screenshot below

Your data directory 605 did not exist under your data directory so most likely an issue with your recent server move to a new server path as noted by the home2 path.

We did not move the server, the site was fine on this server with the photopost gallery, as you can see half of the galleries are showing fine.

Can you please fix it somehow ,so those folders that are showing 0 stats get the pics back. I will be really greatful to you if you can, because I just fail to understand why half of the gallery is fine.

Not sure how I can fix anything for you. I fixed the issue you reported here with that 605 category that was easy. However it may dive into a deeper issue.

The only way photos would be lost in the database is if you run a scan database and your data directory path is incorrect. That way we cant find files and they are removed from the database.

Do you have site backups?

You would actually need to restore your photos table entries to restore the photos from a database backup.

I dont have a backup, the one I have is few months old, and that will not help. I will make regular backups from now on.

So what is the best way you will suggest, that delete those albums with 0 stats and then re create them and add images to them?

Can you plz do the table entries stuff to get the pics back as they are all in the folders as they were before....I am willing to pay you a sum of amount if you can do it.

There is nothing I can do to get picture entries back, You need to upload them one at a time or use the bulk tool. You would need to reupload all those photos if you do not have backups.

So my suggestion is to take a backup of your data directories 584-604 it would appear place them elsewhere on the server and then use the bulkupload tool to reupload them directory by directory

Say copy 584-605 to a directory called

/home2/pakstop/public_html/backup

where backup has directories of 584-604

You can then on the upload page hit the skip upload box and select cat 584 to upload to and then in the server path to uploads directory input say

/home2/pakstop/public_html/backup/584

then all photos found in that directory will be processed.
