Errors, upgrade advice needed.

Hi Folks -

We have Photopost Pro v 5.63 running on our forum site, with vbulletin and vbadvanced.

Recently I experimented with backing up the databases and restoring it, and thus I created a hidden "maintenance copy" of the forum on my personal (private) domain.

I did not allow any members to register there, that was just my "sandbox" where I could make sure I could restore backups etc.

I received an email from Photopost, telling me that I was running an unlicensed version. I responded to that email explaining the above.

Interestingly, and coincidentally, both my "production" implementation AND my test sandbox both started having errors on the same day, with the same error.

It appeared that the pp_iponline table was corrupt, and I repaired it after searching here, but that has not fixed the problem.

I also commented out the whoonline and associated functions from the vb3.php script, but that did not work either.

Currently my gallery is not working, and I want to upgrade to 6.1.

Is this recommended, or should I go back and re-install the 5.63 version?

Can I re-install the 5.63 version without losing all of my images?

I use putty and shell access to back up and restore my databases, and I have made a server side copy of all of the data in the data directory.

I have turned off my sandbox test implementation, and here is a link to my production implementation (broken at this moment....)

http://www.corvettevalley.com/gallery

Please advise how I should proceed.

(ps - I re-upped my support agreement this morning....)

Thanks and best regards -

doggy.

Well thats just a coincedence the error happening when you got the email

Your iponline table is corrupt and you need to repair it in your mysql database viewer via your hosting control panel

when viewing the database you can enter this in the sql box of phpmyadmin

REPAIR TABLE pp_iponline;

Hi Chuck -

Thank you -

I did say that I had already repaired the tables that were corrupt on each implementation.

I also restored all of the php scripts in the gallery root and forums folders, and that has resolved my error situation.

I now want to upgrade to the latest version, so I will attempt that on my test server and then plan the upgrade for the public implementation.

Can you tell me what the "core.nnnnnn" files that are in my gallery directory on the server are? They appear to be stack dumps, but I could not find basic trouble shooting documentation for mySQL or PHP that explained what those files really contain. These files appeared around the same time that we were having the problem with our Photopost implementation.

I would like to thank you, as I have read many of your posts here in the past, and they are very much why I was able to resolve the issues I was having over the past week.

best regards

doggy (Andy)

Andy

Core dump files should never be in any directory on your files. This is an error on your servers part and the correct issue would be to contact your host and have them look into why this is happening. Our program does not generate any such types of files. These are usually from server or cron processes on the server and pretty much temp files that are not deleted. Your host can correct this issue for you.

Thank you Chuck.

I am dealing with the host now - you are 100% correct once again.

I am experiencing almost daily outages....not good.

Our Photopost gallery is operating flawlessly (when the server is up lol...)

Thanks again!

best regards -
