Quickreply (VB3) in Internet Explorer problem

1 Attachment(s)
Hello

I've just upgraded to the latest PhotoPost (6.02) and I'm using the vb3 integration (all "On")

I did not run the upgrade script, because in the announcement it says there is no need to run it for this upgrade.

The bug (i think it is) is in internet explorer: the quick reply has no width:

Chuck S March 7th, 2008 09:46 AM

When did you download 6.02 and did you upload all files?

Also do you have any vb hacks installed?

Usually we see issues like this because of hacks etc. Here is a default 6.02 you can view and see the box full width so we need to track down what your issue might be. You can place a site link and login here as well

Downloaded it yesterday 12:00 gmt+1, I only uploaded the files that where changed since last version.

Yeah I've got quiet a few hacks installed for vb.

Link to example: http://www.dutchbodybuilding.com/gal...php/photo/4934

login: photopost
pass: photopost

Probably you're right about soem conflict , I'm trying to figure out what though.

Chuck S March 7th, 2008 10:28 AM

My suggestion is to upload all files except the photopost config files. disable all vb hacks and verify the box works fine. Then turn on your vb hacks on by one til you get the error and you have your culprit, Things to look for any hack that might be installed for the posting interface.

dutchbb March 7th, 2008 11:56 AM

Re-uploaded all files, disabled all plugins, used a fresh vb style to view gallery, all without success. I'll try to look further, any suggestion are welcome.

Well I found something, the URL to the editor buttons is wrong, for instance this is the location of the collapse_tcat button:

Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.
while it should be:

Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.
I'm pretty sure this has to do with the whole issue? What could be causing this?

Chuck S March 7th, 2008 02:02 PM

You can in your gallery forum settings make sure your forum url is correct and also in your vbulletin settings double check this as this is where we get th url depending on where in the code we are at. You can also sign into your vbulletin admin and go to styles management and under the global style options for your particular style change the relative paths to redirectories like so

/images/buttons

to say this

http://forum.mydomain.com/images/buttons

although I doubt a missing image is going to keep your box from appearing.

dutchbb March 8th, 2008 04:04 AM

Chuck it's exactly the same bug as others here: http://www.photopost.com/forum/showt...ht=quick+reply

Any news on that?

ps: the image problem is solved with the absolute urls, thank you.

Note my reply here. Here is your page source and I see absolutely nothing wrong with that html or why IE would flip out it views fine in Mozilla Opera and Safari.

Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.
Please make sure you download the code from our site to ensure your running all the proper files upload the templates folder and the main php files and lets revisit this

dutchbb March 8th, 2008 08:08 AM

I've read the thread but couldn't find a solution. I re-uploaded all default files, disabled plugins and vbulletin templates are default. Also this was never a problem in 6.01 so it is obviously some conflict with IE and the 6.02 code.

Chuck S March 8th, 2008 08:23 AM

Dutch this is a default 6.02 install files with all the new files etc.

http://www.reeftalk.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=468

login

testing and testing

I do not see any issues with the quick reply with the current files infact 6.02 added the vb quick reply back in 6.01 did not have a vb quick reply. You must ensure you have uploaded all the templates from the current downloaded code from our members area and at least the header-inc.php and showphoto.php files.

dutchbb March 8th, 2008 08:55 AM

Yeah no problems on Reeftalk but I've still seen others sites here having the same issue in IE and they also still haven't solved it. I'm 100% sure I uploaded everything atleast 5times (downloaded a fresh install today from members area). I'm going to try a fresh vb install next if that doesn't work I hope someone from photopost can have a look because I don't know what else to do then.

dutchbb March 8th, 2008 09:09 AM

Well, I found the problem! And it's a bug.

In vBulletin, disable the WYSIWYG for Quick Reply. Then view the gallery quick reply in IE again. You'll notice the exact same problem on any other site.

Chuck S March 8th, 2008 09:12 AM

Now thats good that is why no one has been able to get the same error.

I will pass it along to Michael although I am unsure why it would only be an issue with IE 7.

Chuck S March 8th, 2008 09:17 AM

Box still shows for me with WYSIWYG off in photopost edit integration options so I doubt we have tracked down the true cause yet.

Chuck S March 8th, 2008 09:20 AM

Since I am unable to reproduct what you see I can only suggest some things for you to try. You can edit the quickreply_367 template and add this in bold to this line and see if that helps

Code:

Content visible to verified customers only.

Chuck S March 8th, 2008 09:24 AM

I tracked it down to if you just use the basic text box in IE 7

Using the standard or WYSIWYG box it works fine

Infopro May 11th, 2008 12:41 PM

Nice tracking, but incorrect from what I can tell. And the link you provided to your own site shows an incorrectly sized reply box. I'm not about to register to test it out to see what the full reply window looks like, nor can I test here on the official pp forums gallery as its out of date by several versions.

My guess is, this latest release of pp is as all the rest have been for years now, not quite ready for prime time. Testing this gallery on the latest vb for integration in all areas before release of a major release of VB would have sure been nice.

I'm going to leave this run on my test site and see if I can fix the code myself in these files to work better. As for my live site, I'll be going back to my earlier gallery version that I made work as it should, this new one has some new features (as always) and some same old problems (as always). Again, as every upgrade to this gallery has ever had.

You mentioned you've been "breathing and eating this code for 5 years now" or something to that effect in one of these threads, that may well be, but 5 pages of bug reports on these forums in 7 days of the latest release sounds like not enough was done here on this release.

BTW, the latest pp has no template named quickreply_367 it does however have a quickcom367.tmpl though, and that one mentions v=367 in it not v=370.

Any idea when we can expect an updated version to better work with 370 (and tested in IE7)?

Also, the first post mentions 6.02, I'm assuming thats a typo as the members area only has 6.01 available?

Same gallery, different year. Astonishing to me.

Chuck S May 11th, 2008 01:25 PM

The photopost 6.0 series was released last year. 6.01 earlier this year and our current code is 6.1 which was released last week.

Infopro May 11th, 2008 01:35 PM

Which is not fully compatable/working with vbulletin 3.7 that was released previous to pp 6.1, on April 29 2008. And also is not much of a "rollup of minor fixes" as stated if its introducing new bugs along with those "new features" mentioned in the pp release announcement.

One Example; http://www.photopost.com/forum/photopost-pro-bug-reports/136499-another-6-1-upgrade-error-post1223972.html

Another is this very thread and the editor issues, to name only two.
