PP 6: No alert when buddy uploads photo

Hi

PP 6

I just downloaded today (15.10.2007) the newest files and made a fresh install. No integration.

When I mark someone as a buddy and this buddy uploads later on a photo, I do not get an alert. Neither by mail, nor in my profile.

But I get an alert in my profile when this buddy posts a comment below my photos ("Last comment on:")

well the simple answer is nothing is coded into the message system or anything for anything but comments. Michael did not code in any photo upload portion.

To be honest, this is very disappointing.

The buddy system was one of the 3 reasons for me thinking finally it is going in the right direction (message board and enhanced user profile are the other 2)

Now it turns out, that the so called buddy system is from the perspective of a photography community useless, the message board system lacks in basic appearence & usability and the enhanced profile is not so much "enhanced" as it should be by now to help developping a real photo community.

I just do not understand it. Me and others posted now for 1-2 years how other photo sites just surpass our photopost driven sites by miles with features that are just useful and worth it in the day to day work of our users. I am not talking about polishing surfaces.

And the only reaction I can see now are features that are not really thought to the end.

It is nice to read that there is a buddy list, a message board and an enhanced profile in PP6. But before programming this, did anybody care to check how these things should work in real life, in real photo community sites to be useful for the enduser?

I send a couple of times links to very successfull photosites to give the photopost developpers in addition to my detailed suggestions help what kind of features user are nowadays used to on other sites. It seems that nobody cares here about the "market" or the input of your clients.

Sorry, if this sound frustrated, but I AM FRUSTRATED because of this attitiude.

So again, we are on ourselves. Back to business. Let's try to make the best out of it:

Is there any chance to offer fast a hack at least fo this buddy list to offer alerts for photo-uploads in userprofiles ?

Photopost 6 has tons of new features but lets be real here. Not everything in a product is going to function as you want it in all capacities. The buddy list seems to be tied to the commenting and messaging system. There are things that can be improved for sure and more features can be added but this whole message board aspect of the program is brand new and as such new aspects and customer feedback will drive new features and broader ranges of how things operate in future versions. This is the first release of a gallery with a mini forum infact we should be to my knowledge the only gallery with a built in forum.

Every new feature is a starting point for something that grows as we learn how people want to use it.

In Future versions we can look at further features but for now the features are as released with this version. Most are new features and they will be expanded upon in the future as we have both noted.

I can't create a new topic and found a bug at the "Demo" PP 6, What can I do ?

Bug:
You can press "upload" without filling anything and you get the "image uploaded" notification...

That is not a bug. It will scan your uploads directory and try to process what it finds it finds nothing and says the process is done. For something to truly upload it needs a file otherwise it will just process find nothing and go back to gallery.

Michael never added code for message notification on uploading of photos that much I know. I have worked with every stage of the beta and the messaging system only included notification messages on comments. As noted these are new features and surely will get expanded upon as time goes on.
