Oh So Many Bugs 1. When using the uniform thumbnail feature, you set the width and height to something like 150x150 and what you really get is a taller height and 150 in width (something like 170x150). 2. When using the uniform thumbnail feature some of the thumbs are blurry. 3 In showphoto page the image you are viewing's thumbnail on top as seen here is VERY small. I want to report these bugs, but I also want to fix them as well. So any ideas? |
I can tell you 3 is not a bug that by design Michael has displayed the avatar size thumb to distinguish which one your viewing. I will ask Michael about how uniform is suppose to work but i think it just does crops from the middle but unsure if uniform means its suppose to be same dimensions or not. Anything different about the pictures that are blurry? |
Both issue #1 and #2 should be fixed with the build that Michael uploaded last night. We had both of these issues on our site and did post here about them. |

They are VERY blurry BTW. |
Okay links here? I rebuilt mine using uniform try raising your quality a little. I have my uniform thumbs set to 120x78 and they look okay. |
|
Your thumbnails look fine to me that I see. |
No way man. You have to see the blurry ones. They are there |
I see 2 now on the most recent uploaded photos but thats it and some look like screen shots which are usually blurry. |
Bro No matter what you say, you cannot deny the fact that these images WOULD NOT and ARE NOT blurry without having the "uniform" feature on. It is FACT. Acknowledge that this is a bug or help me fix it. I don't mean to be pushy, but you are denying this. ANYONE that goes to my page will see that this is wrong. Would you like me to turn off uniform so you can see? What in the world are you talking about? Screen-shots are usually blurry? This is 10000% wrong. My screenshots are CRISP at high resolution. Is there a fix for this or not? |
Generally speaking, I would say your thumbnails are of exceptional quality. The uniform thumbnail feature uses a feature of ImageMagick to grab a center shot of an image; if you don't like the quality, you don't need to use the feature. We don't have any control over the ImageMagick executable and I believe my parameters are all correct for a valid thumbnail. |
was told to PM someone about this thread on VB.org, but he hasnt responded |
Not sure what discussion your referring to since no one here has participated in any discussion offsite. As Michael notes we have no control over Imagemagick. I use the uniform thumbnail feature and see no quality issues nor did I see any issues when i viewed your site before maybe you could update your imagemagick and see if a newer release might help. If you continue to have issues with quality and the uniform thumbnail type you can simply use the regular thumbnail processing as noted by Michael. |

I use uniform thumbnails on my site: http://www.viperalley.com/gallery/sh...ry.php/cat/504 and it works just fine. I use the most current Imagemagick (what version is yours?) and rarely find a bad thumbnail. Make sure you have a current version of IM and understand that when using a script like IM to resize a 1440x900 image to a 100x63 thumbnail there is going to be some loss of quality. I don't see a bug here that can be fixed on our side since the thumbnail is a product of ImageMagick. Maybe you should consider using bigger thumbnails? Like 120 or 125? I use them on ViperAlley and get great results. |

Michael, Chuck, and I, checked out your site. I think your thumbnails might be a bit soft, but unfortunately that's not something that our software controls. Here's what I'd suggest: 1) Use a bigger thumbnail 2) Switch to GD for image resizing instead of ImageMagick. This will tell you for sure if ImageMagick is to blame and is probably the best way to resolve the issue, if there is one. 3) Or try recompiling ImageMagick with a newer version. |
Also, any software (Photoshop even) will create a blurry thumb when you go from a huge image to a small image, and ImageMagick and GD are no exception. Try uploading a smaller image and see if the generated thumbnails are less blurry. |
The way I see it here there are three options available and most have been covered previously in this thread by Michael or I. 1. You can choose not to use the uniform thumbnail feature. Turn off the feature. 2. Switch your processor to GD2 and under scan database you can rebuild all your thumbs. 3. Recompile Imagemagick on your server to the latest version and see if this helps your issue. Our program has no control over your servers image processor so you can only try another image processor or update the one on your server to see if that assists. Let me know if there is anything else I can assist with. |
