Layout issue on index page

I tried to enable the Recent Comments and it is not showing up. Per another thread on here, I just tried to re-upload the template files, and that still did not help. Also the statistics are off on the index page, but if you click into one of the categories, they seem to be correct. Is there a caching issue that I'm missing here?

I'm not sure why the template is not working correctly either.

fixed the statistics by turning off the caching for it
