Suddenly can't upload photos

I have Photopost Pro 5.62 which has been running well for many months. Today I went to upload some photos and it appears to be going OK, then you get this message at the end. It is running in vb3 integration mode with vBulletin 3.6.5.

Warning: move_uploaded_file(/home/carandim/public_html/photopost/uploads/3/Morpethbr.JPG) [function.move-uploaded-file]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/carandim/public_html/photopost/image-inc.php on line 48

Warning: move_uploaded_file() [function.move-uploaded-file]: Unable to move '/tmp/phpNjgzAK' to '/home/carandim/public_html/photopost/uploads/3/Morpethbr.JPG' in /home/carandim/public_html/photopost/image-inc.php on line 48

Is this a bug. It has never happened before. I'd appreciate some help with this as we run a weekly photographic competition.

I have admin access to Photopost and unlimited file size and upload size.

Well, having read another's problem here that was similar to mine, I have noted that all my data subfolders and uploads subfolders were set at 755, so I changed them all to 777. Problem is now gone, but why should they change. I uploaded photos less than 24 hours previous to this. Something is capable of changing the CHMOD values?

yes your host can update your server if they want

Nothing from our software would set your values to 755

Thanks for replying Chuck. I appreciate it and I think my host has been doing some weird stuff lately.
