Major 5.5 Issues

Ever since I upgraded to 5.5, our server has not been releasing http requests which makes us have to reboot the server. I figured out it was due to PhotoPost because I "Closed" it for 3 days with no server issues. I turned it back on today and several hours later, the server processing jumps back up. I need this addressed ASAP as we have a major event in less than two weeks and every minute it's off, we loose money.

What do you mean "releasing http requests" - since the script doesn't run in any kind of endless loop, there is no way to "hold" an http request open beyond the execution of the script.

Well, I am not a server guru but our server admin said something keeps using up the resources. We went through and turned off every system then back on after a period of time to try and narrow it down. The only thing we found is when we did that with PP, the server was fine. When we opened it back up, the server resources sky-rocketed to the point of having to reboot.

That doesn't really give me much to go on; how many users do you have online in the gallery while this is happening? This sounds vaguely like an issue I helped you with in the past and we added in some throttling code to stop execution during high server loads.

What are the specis on your server and how many users are you serving?

Michael made some changes and it hasn't hiccuped since. I also added another Gig of RAM to the server. I am not sure if it because of my large amount of categories that was the caused but it's fixed!

Steve has always had a unique issue. He has TONS OF CATEGORIES which bog things down and little tweaks and adjustments have been made. For most sites you will not see any issues. Yeah like we had some lady report about slowness of something on her site Michael took a look and she had like 1 million comments or something like that. Talk about unreal.

The only thing I changed was to comment out the call to quickcats() in showgallery.php; given the huge number of categories Steve has, this was simply taking up too much memory.
