Sorting - number of photos(FIXED)

Hi,

I love all the sort options in the current Photopost but one of my members has asked something that I can't answer..

If he looks at say his member gallery, with thousands of photos in it, the system will say he has say 1121 photos and it will sort them into pages of 12 etc, great.

If he then chooses one of the options at the bottom of the page to sort by something else, the number of photos changes. So 1121 photos sorted by whatever he chooses may become something like 1098 photos. The missing photos are actually not then showing and are not included.

I tried it on the gallery area here, and a user there has 119 photos, clicking on sorting them at the bottom of the screen changed it to 117 photos.

Is he sorting by a last comment or rating sort which might limit the photo range to only those photos with comments or ratings.

This I think would be the issue here.

It works just like the forum search works here. The initial members gallery returns everything say with red. Say you pick last comment which will only show photos of that user that have comments. You have further refined or constrained the query to just pick the images that have comments.

No, as I say, you can see the effect here - and on all current version PP sites I have tried.

If you go to a users member gallery here, choosing one with plenty of photos, and just go to the bottom of the page and click on sort without changing anything from the defaults you'll get a different number of photos sorted to the number you were first shown.

To reproduce it this works:

He has 119 photos the page tells you.

Just go to the bottom of the page and click on sort, that will use Filename, Beginning, Ascending - as they are the defaults there.. and you'll see he now has 117 photos on the results page. ie the top of the page says you are viewing photos 1-12 of 117, and you are, 2 photos have gone from the sort.

To see a much stronger effect you need a site with larger photo counts, as when a user has thousands of photos hundreds seem to vanish when you do any sort of sort.

Well I beleive as I explained above the sorts are designed to further limit the results. Example if you choose to sort by last comment then only photos with comments will be shown same goes for rating

Given this scenerio's the program is working as it should. See these lines in bold this is why the results are limited

Thanks for looking at this.

Please can you look at this example below, it seems not to be what you describe does it?

A users gallery of photos:

...that shows he has 1149 photos doesn't it.

Now try clicking the sort now on the bottom of the page, with it set on the default of Filename Beginning Ascending - and the number of photos drops to 792 doesn't it.

What happened to the other 357 photos?

The sort should show ALL of his photos still, nothing is meant to be taken out....as everything has a filename doesn't it.

You can do the same with lots of variations, they all lose hundreds of photos.

What is going wrong and how can it be sorted out, any idea?

Easy

In showgallery.tmpl this line for beginning time

echo "<option value=\"9999\"". ($sorttime=="all" ? " selected=\"selected\"" : "") .">{$Globals['pp_lang']['beginning']}</option>";

Add that extra 9 as 999 is less than 3 years and this is your issue beginning time is not long enough

That's it....ya got it...

Well done.. it fixes that example I gave in my last message.

The original example of this site still shows the fault, so the Photopost.com site needs that fix applying, as I guess do all of them.
