| Where's the latest comments section?(NOT A BUG)
I don't know if this was this issue with downloading the 5.2 before it was upgraded or not. I don't know if I downloaded it before it was updated, because there was no instructions on how to check if I did or not. Looking at the date of the download was too close to judge.
Anyhow, I set "Display new comments/photos indicator on index?" to yes, but it doesn't display any of the latest comments. I did however notice the "Top Posters" sidepal on the right, but you scroll down on the index page and at the right of the table that has the "Statistics" in it it shows "Top Posters".
Looks like a bug, now how can I fix it? Can't redownload as moddified the code already, but the code mod is only in categall.tmpl
Please let me know how to fix this.
Thanks.

The newpost code indicator is the index the grey arrows change color to yellow and I show it works
Your modification could be the culprit here

I guess I don't understand. What is the "newpost code indicator"? Is this a program I can run to check my version or something? How do I check my version to see if it's what's causing this problem without actually reinstalling?

The new post indicator is that error to the latest post comment. It turns yellow the arrow if there is a new post

UPDATE: OK I downloaded it again and ran a folder and file compare. Can you confirm that vb3enhanced\categories.tmpl was one of the files that was modified from the first release to the second release of 5.2? It looks like it is varying from my original download. The original is showing a time of 10/1/2005 9:41:10am while the 2nd shows 10/2/2005 12:10:08am can you confirm that I have the buggy version?
If so, can I get a list of all the files that were changed so I can make the fix as quickly as possible. Thanks.

I replaced my categall template with the original and the problem was still there. You do know I'm not talking about those comment icons, but the actual list that shows the latest comments with the little thumbnails by them. I don't see it, but down by the stats it's showing a repeat of the Top Posters. Is it possible that one of the problems of that first 5.2 was that it was calling the Top Posters pal instead of the latest comments "pal" (if the lastest comments is indeed a "pal")?
Isn't there any sure way to see if I did get the early 5.2 buggy version? A line of code that I can check and if it's this I got this version or if it's that then I got that version? That would at least bring it all the way down to something I did with a mod or not.

I think your misunderstanding something here. Your latest comments block has nothing to do with the new post indicators which you say you have an issue with.
The latest comments block simply displays the x number of last comments
The code to display new posts comments has not changed in many versions.
It appears on the category template in the form of those little gray boxes with arrows on the last comment last photo links and when there is a new post or comment they arrow turns yellow
It works as I have tested it and has not changed in many versions.

NM I'm stupid. (FIXED)
I do have a question about this cache though. It seems like it is going longer than 10 minutes before recaching. I will keep watching it and see if it really is 10 minutes. At what time should it start to be changed to higher setting? Any "n average users online = n cache minutes"?

I am still interested in finding out something to verify what version of 5.2 I have, can you help me? I really don't want to be modifying the buggy version.
Please let me know of a way to truely confirm what version I have.
Thanks.

There is no way to tell. There was only one update put on on 9-30-05 so I guess if you installed before that you have the old version

Well I don't track when I download or install software, so I was hoping for something with a litle more proof. How about a line of code that you changed from the buggy version to the non-buggy version? That's doesn't seem like it would be all that hard to get me. Then I can check my code and see what that line reads to know what version I have.
What about bugs that were in the buggy version? Bugs that I can check and see if they exist in my install? Something, anything I just need to know what version I have so I don't build up from a buggy version only to find out later.

There are several bug threads you can read with fixes on this forum to see if they are in your build. They are marked very clearly FIXED or NOT A BUG

I thought some of those bugs reported and fixed though were from the not already buggy version though. From my understanding the first 5.2 release was buggy and so people were warned to redownload it if they had downloaded it on or before a certain date. No warnings are ever given like that for all these fixes posted in this bug forum, so I was under the impression that they were some nasty bugs that you didn't want floating around in peoples 5.2 installs, while all the bugs in this forum were more of a minor nature. If I can just check a bug thread that is marked fixed, how do I know it's a bug that was in the buggy version of 5.2 and not the working (less buggy ) version?
Man, think how easy it would be to track this for your users if you guys just put 5.2.1 behind it.
I am not as concerned about the fixes for the 2nd release of 5.2 as much as the first release of it. I was also under the impression that there was no FIX posted for the original 5.2 release and that's why people were told to download it again. If there is a fix that brings the original buggy 5.2 release up to the less buggy 2nd release can you tell me where that thread is?
Maybe I am misunderstanding and am just assuming that the first 5.2 release had some large bugs in it that can really damage a sites functionality. Please let me know.

There were no large bugs merely alot of cache update issues really. There was a fix posted as I stated and posted 9-30 at 1:49PM and the changes files are listed in that announcement thread which is stickied in the bugs forum here

Are you reffering to the reply in this thread: PhotoPost 5.2 Upgrade Information (updated 9/29/05 1:49 PM)
???
I am talking about these things that Michael P mentioned in that thread:
Also included fixes for:
. Comments PAL cache refresh using wrong permissions
. Personal Albums not displaying in Members Gallery
. Assigned Albums not appears in category list
. Links in Members Gallery not working
. Force refresh of cache when new photos are uploaded or photos are deleted (forces Recent Photos to update immediately)
. Query format error in regsiter.php
. Fixed problem where two Random PALs on a single page messed with the cache
. Fixed a parse error in slideshow.php
. editphoto - fixed Make Index Thumb problem where update didnt take til next cache update
. useralbums - fixed category caching problem
Those sound like big enough bugs. THOSE are the bugs I am trying to find out if they are already fixed in my version or not. How do I find out if my version already has those fixes or not? And if not, how do I get them into my install without redownloading 5.2 again and overwriting all my files?

We issued a release. Michael states the files to replace.
Either upload those files from the current download or check them against your's
Remember we can't support your hacked files so all I can tell you is upload the new files.
