5.11 MembersList Format - last photo upload thumbnail not most recent

Using show members in list Format -
last photo upload - date is correct, but the last photo thumbnail is not.

We have Category viewing by Most Recent. When choosing Group by Members, it does not show Most Recent thumbnail, though last photo date is correct.

Is there a technical road block to make thumbs newest pics?

A performance/query issue?

The whole point of showing the Most Recent thumb is so that regular viewers will know if a member has uploaded any new pics since last visit.

I have only recently enabled thumbs in the member list, because I needed thumbs showing in the Group by Member Cat view.

I can see now, how regular viewers will have more of a tendency to view the Members List by thumbs, not by username, especially as I have the Members List -Sort by- as Newest pic (latest upload) 1st - Alphabetical 2nd.

Cat Group by Member really needs to show Most Recent uploaded thumbs.

For a future release I would love to see the Members page expanded, into their own `Portfolio' page, with user controls to manage the presentation of albums and pictures grouped by cats.

In the meantime the two things which would most benefit our members is latest photo thumb issue, and the ability for members to `email link to friend' - their Members Gallery, and Group by Member pics per cat.

Otherwise PP5.11 is way cool!

It's an issue of efficency; in the prior version of PhotoPost we did the main query and then if you were viewing thumbnails a second query for each member being displayed to find the latest thumbnail. This means that the showmembers page with 30 members would result in 30 additional queries per page. Using the method, we save the 30 queries, but loose the last photo uploaded thumbnail. It's a trade-off.

MySQL does support sorting columns during the GROUPing of records, by grouping the records from the photos table, we save any processing of members who have no photos at all.

Bummer, though thanks for the explaination.
I suppose this would affect larger sites more, who have X number of visitors at the site at one time?
What would be the consequence? Thumbs slow to appear, or whole page not loading?
If a program could detect if there was an overload and switch to no/random thumbnail format during these times, would be cool.

I'm guessing that the Members List and Group by Members are somewhat inextricibly intertwined, that you can't have it in one and not the other?

Reason I'm asking is that most of our categories currently have less then 30 members uploaded to that cat.

Just noticed this change. Still like the old format: show the real latest uploaded thumbnails.
