Slow search

I am using photopost classifieds. The search works fine if there are not a lot of listings in the database, but as soon as there a a couple hundred thouseand listings it slows way way down and the entire program runs painfully slow. Please advise.

Well a couple hundred thousand ads is quite alot and depending on your server this could take a while. I would suggest you edit your pp-inc.php file and set $showsqldebug variable to show the query timing.

You can then see your query times but more than likely you would need to update your server with a better processor memory or if a hosting environment go to a higher level if your using that many ads. Searching hundreds of thousands of ads depending on your server config settings might tax things. Are you expiring outdated ads? Given the nature of a classifieds site and the temporary content of the site it brings to question also the amount of traffic on the site which would also slow it down.

I inquired with oir host hostgator. Here is there responce.

This issue has been investigated and the page http://zippol.com/ppc/showcat.php?st...=all&x=13&y=13 did load slowly for me. Via ssh access the following was found while waiting..

12422432 | conway_pianka | localhost | conway_zippol | Query | 23 | Sorting result | SELECT id,user,userid,cat,date,title,description,keywords,bigimage,views,approved,rating,price,statu

Notice that the status is "Sorting result", this is mainly because of the amount of fields you have. If you implement indexing you will get quicker queries....

You have not posted a full query here so their response makes no sense

Chuck I am not sure what you mean by a full query. This query returns results for pizza places in Suffield CT. AS you can see it returns the correct results it is just very very slow. The more data I upload the slower it gets. Can this program be coded to do indexing.
