| Notification of comments
I've noticed that my galleries are almost completely dead!
Members are no longer active and I can see why that is. Nobody is getting emails about comments left on their pictures. I notice that the member has to click notify me of comments... why on earth is that? This is the same for anyone leaving a comment... why???
How do members become automatically subscribed to a picture if they comment on it? This is normal practice with nearly every gallery and forum that I know... so surely I'm simply misunderstanding how to set this up for my members... right?
If for some odd reason wasn't built into the software (which would be fatal to sales) then can you suggest a quick and dirty hack to resolve this please.

| This is standard practice and has always been so. Permissions structure in our applications are much like any forum. I know on most forums when I make a reply I am presented with options of whether I want notification and I have to check whether to get that. It is pretty much the same with the gallery permissions. If I post a photo or comment I get to say whether or not I want notification.

Not the way I see it... The user who makes a comment need to look for the button "Receive Email Updates" and click on that. That is not how most forums and galleries work. Are you saying that this is the only option and that administrators cannot allow automatic subscription with the option for the user to un-subscribe?

In fact version pro 7.01 allowed subscriptions to a category and that included all picture uploads and comments....

Steff you can not compare different products which may have different features. Just for the record as far as individual photo and comment notifications are concerned Pro and vbGallery work the same. You are referring to Category Subscriptions or Notifications which is a Pro feature and different from the individual notifications.

Chuck... if they work in the same way how do I get VBG to allow members to subscribe to a category for uploads and comments?

Steff what I said in my reply above was they both work the same as far as individual notifications meaning if you post a photo or make a comment the user is asked if they want to be notified of replies.
PhotoPost Pro has a feature unique to it in regards to category subscriptions and is not an option in vbGallery.

Not sure what your reply means above. I do beleive I have explained the feature in both applications. Your using vbGallery so you can not do category subscriptions.

This thread should really be a feature request...
In that sense I wouldn't mind seeing a better subscription system; one similar to the thread subscription system where the member can choose to automatically subscribe to photos they've replied to.

As a workaround I'm paying a coder to create a latest comment block that can be placed in the sidebar. If successful I will release it to VB org.
I agree that the comments system is prehistoric.....

I wouldn't call it prehistoric, but it could use some added features. I would be interested in a 'recent comments' box as well as the above.

I agree that the comments system is prehistoric..... | I would not call it prehistoric. The comment system pretty well works the same way making a forum post does and you mark whether you want to be notified of replies.
The only confusion here is the way it sounds is your a vbGallery convert from Pro so you where talking about a Pro only feature. Pro has more features than vbGallery always has always will. It's been around alot longer than vbGallery.

Octavius your using Pro right kinda confused on why your posting in vbGallery thread. In Pro you can easily turn off a notification viewing the photo you elected to get notifications on or under your Pro profile under statistics you can manage all your notifications and subscriptions.
