blank install page - php 5.3

I attempted to upgrade an existing copy to the most recent version and the install file shows just the header

Im running php5.3
Ive checked that the required php options are enabled as in here
vbgallery_install.php fails to launch

Anything else I can look at that might be causing the problem ?

Looking in the logs on the server i dont see any errors being generated

any ideas would be welcome

Have you tried the suggestion in that thread?

Really knowing what the error is can help solve the problem. Have you tried turning on display_errors in PHP?

Is there any plan to update the code to be compatible ?

The goal was to stay current and therefore secure

We will at some point roll out an update. They usually do not roll out an update for one thing which is why I think nothing has been done.
