Moving to a new Server + new Domain I am moving VBulettin with vbgallery to a new root Server and new Domain. Yes i do know to change the License to the new Domain name! (after its done, hopefully) on my test installation i did find out that all files in gallery/files have different CHMOD! The Folders are not a problem but if I have to CHMOD about 20000 pics by Hand...than i have a Problem  the thumbnails are all chmod to 644 thats fine, but the bigger Images are all chmod to 777, thats a real problem! Do somebody know a trick to get those files "easy" chmod to 777? I am using WS_FTP pro so far, but maybe there is an update function within VBgallery or an useful script around? im running vers. 2.4.3 Hopefully somebody can give me a hint to get rid off this ugly situation! thanks in advance, MarkusB :o |
Try downloading and using Filezilla You should be able to right click a directory and set all its subdirectories and files to 777 if thats what your looking to do. I beleive the files directories should be 777. The files are fine at 644 |
Hi Chuck, The directories are all to chmod 777 now, i just recognized that the files on the old server was 664 (thumbnails) and the larger pics with 777? As i see in your posting it makes no problem if they are all chmod to 644! But now i am in trouble with another additional problem and i`m running out of ideas... I have about 18k pics in the Gallery, about 4k pics are orphaned in the Gallery. I have the only possibility to "delete" those pics. What i guess it was a mistake to run "rebuild Pic information" (i have running it in german) can i import the old table from the old server, and which table is the wright one to overwrite ? in the old Gallery are 1389 orphaned pics in the new gallery are 4482 (after the rebuild pic information) Another question about those orphaned files, do they have another storing place and dont use the user ID dirctory structure in the Gallery? The question is because i have also orphaned files in the old Server gallery, but they are visible, on the new Server there are more orphaned files (after my mistake?), but they are invisible. If i compare both galleries directories (old server and new server) the amount of the files are the same?! cheers markus |
Orphaned files happen when someone has been removed from the forum as in delete old users and they no longer exist so when you update info then those pics now become orphaned. I really could not comment more without seeing actual links to images in both installs. You can restore the old images table to the new images table in your new server if you choose make sure you take database backups before playing around with such things though The table name is ppgal_images |
hmm one example (what is far beyond logic for me) At the moment it is a parallel installation on two different Servers each one have his own Domain 1st and now old Installation is on susiforum .com (old Server) (is auto forwarding to 2nd Installation) 2nd and now actual Installation is pattayaforum .net (new Server) on both the Gallery is disabled, pending on the mentioned problem. example Link: old one: http://www.susiforum .com/gallery/files/1/6/3/umleitunggt8.gif (is visible) new one: http://www.pattayaforum .net/gallery/files/1/6/3/umleitunggt8.gif (is unvisible) (remove empty space before .com and .net) If i check with my ftp client those Folders "gallery/files/1/6/3/" i am not able to find this files on both servers, but why i can see the image (visual) on the old installation? (susiforum .com) if i check in the ACP for orphaned files than it shows in pattayaforum as orphaned and in susiforum not there is no logic for me in that ? Believe me i have double triple etc.. checked this files! They are not presenting in per ftp! Cheers Markus |
http://www.susiforum.com/gallery/fil...leitunggt8.gif yes its visible http://www.pattayaforum.net/gallery/...leitunggt8.gif That tells me the file does not exist on the new gallery. So basically the file does not exist or something like htaccess etc is preventing the new file from being seen on the new server. |
i don`t use a .htaccess in the gallery, and no prevention for hotlinking this one is in the same folder: http://www.pattayaforum.net/gallery/...0b0c70328c.gif (but visible) |
Right but what I am saying is this. You obviously copied files via ftp etc to this new server etc but not all files have been copied it looks like to me. If they where then the file in question would exist. So thus if files do not exist when you try to rescan they will be deleted because they do not exist and are not found. Which is this is what your trying to explain and now you know the cause. To completely clone the gallery on a new server you need to move the database and all files associated with the new install and then update the paths and urls in the settings. If you do that you will be fine. Obviously all the files have not been copied over if they dont exist on the new server. |
This is what i have exactly done, i have transferred the whole database to the new Server, after that i moved really all existing files to the new Server! Next was to change the paths in the ACP, and gallery_config.php to the new domain name. The database and files was saved at the same time with disabled Forum and Gallery. So far its Ok and fine. what is annoying to me i have files (about 4000 pics) they are orphaned (it shows orphaned by database scan) and not showing up on the new Server (so far logic) but why they are not showing as orphaned on the old Server (they are not stored in the gallery folders) by database scan? and they are visible by browsing! (sure not only in my browser cache) Fact is on both servers are exactly the same files in the gallery directories, i have checked that many times and with different ftp clients, but this is so frustrating to me because i find absolutely no sense! Normally i would say this files are just not exist, but why they show up on the old Server, they are also not in the gallery folders stored...? |
without being able to see things I can not say. What I am telling you is simply they links your providing us do show the files exist on one server and not on the other. You might want to post through the contact us link an admin login to new login to say for example the file in question in my post. You meantion you can see it well lets see what path the new install is looking for the file in. |
