Search Gallery from VB

This is another noobie question...

Just purchased PhotoPost yesterday and loaded up some images (very easy to use by the way) and I tried to search for "Title" "Keyword" "Description" from VB and it doesn't appear VB has the ability to search the PhotoPost gallery.

Of course if I navigate to Photopost and try the search, all is fine.

Are there instructions somewhere that show "Dummies Guide" on how to include the Gallery in the Search Items?

Thanks

Sorry to search the gallery you must be in the gallery and use the search function in gallery. Thus you can not include the gallery in the vb search.

Big Bummer. It keeps the Forum and PhotoPost gallery so seperated. Ideally, someone one put a keyword in the forum search and the results would include pictures as well as forums that have that keyword(s). That would bring the two together so much better.

Do you believe this will be included in a future enhancement?

I cant really say because your forum search script is built for your forum and works specifically for your forum searching your forum stuff. Your gallery search is quite the opposite it searches gallery tables and displays gallery entries.

Might be possible through some plugin in vb.

Well I think there must be an intermediate solution:
You have 2 kinds of people searching your site..
  • people searching for images
  • people searching for forum threads, seeking information..

the simplest way to satisfy both would be:

to ad 1 link to each search page:
  • Add to forum search page: Are you searching for images? (linking to gallery searchpage)
  • Add to gallery search page: Are you searching for forum threads? (linking to forum searchpage)

I also added something similar to blog search.. and linksearch..

But I read somewhere that in vbulletin 4, you will be able to group those searches.. maybe it will be possible to integrate gallery search as well..

@chuck
btw.. any plans for vb 4?

As always when the gold releases of VB 4 are released our products will support them.

I know that.. PP has always been perfect when gold comes out..

my question was rather going in a different direction..
For vbgallery.. as this is going to implement a rewrite of core files and as vb4 is going to be completely tableless.. i was wondering if there were any thoughts of going in tableless direction.. as well as adapting search..

Sorry, not planning to highjack thread..

tableless you mean not using table tr and td tags just div tags?

Luciano May 8th, 2009 12:25 PM

Well forums are not going to use divs all the time..
just other "semantic" tags like <li> or <h3>... but definitely hardly no more table tags.! Kier published the css in his blog..

And among the announced new features are:
Quote:

Key features and improvements that will be included in the first vBulletin 4 release are:
  • Cross-content search system providing a single interface to search across forum posts, blog entries and comments and other supported products

I thought as developpers PP would get insight and the possibility to plan future releases

I dont work with vbgallery so I really cant say what will come down the road the the support products they are talking about is THEIR PRODUCTS. It is not a stretch to make there products searchable in their forum because they know the table names they all exist under the forum database its really a simple thing they are doing.
